I played in the 4L WW game. It is a very interesting game, and I can draw 3 conclusions:

(1) playing would suck pretty much every free moment of my life away,
(2) I'd be terrible at it, and
(3) my post-count would go through the roof.

That said, I do like a good sheep (iykwim!!)

If my house is anything to go by, drunk by around 1pm

Just had a phone call from someone claiming to be from my bank's fraud department, questioning some transactions I'd made. Thought it was suspicious so called my bank back, and there's apparently a transaction I don't recognise been made literally just as the first call came in. So I cancel my card to be on the safe side. Later googling indicates the phonecall was probably genuine and the unknown transaction may well be standard. Bastard time to be waiting for a new card imo.

i have friends whose families go to the pub on xmas day. i find that a bit weird. More acceptably upper middle class is champagne cocktails with breakfast, champagne until lunch, champagne with lunch, beer/wine/spirits until you pass out. oh and some food, and some presents.

the queen makes a speech on tv on xmas day, which is supposed to be a great xmas uk tradition, but i've never watched it.

how is it.

i imagine it'd be a bit depressing, although sometimes slightly depressing places are weirdly awesome (I spent xmas eve/day a few years back in a combination of phoenix airport and a local (empty) holiday inn. All the stores were closed, but somehow i remember it as pretty cool).

The worst part is knowing that the people working there are wanting to be anywhere but there. But, you would be surprised at the number of people that do this. Lots of people without families do this. Lots of childless couples for sure. Last year they had some sort of promotion going and it was unbelievably crowded. You literally could not find an empty slot machine or lower stakes game table. Also, the one I go to has a pretty awesome Xmas day buffet going.

We usually go to the movies on Christmas Day. My brother and his wife come in from LA where most of the movie theaters are either really expensive or really suck or both, where Kansas City has tons of spectacular movie theaters with admission in the 6-7 dollar range. We don't have Christmas dinner until the evening in my family, so after we have the huge breakfast and the gifts, there's this long down time. So my generation (me, brother, cousins, various SOs) usually takes off to a movie in the early afternoon, then comes back and drinks alcohol until dinnertime.

for a while we did xmas abroad. So i've done xmas in a bunch of places where it's not really celebrated much - morrocco, india, japan. It's a bit weird at first it being a regular day, but it's kind of cool.

christmas in the summertime definitely doesn't feel right. and thats after years of living in Phoenix-- but it will still be hotter here and definitely a lot more humid than it gets in Phoenix around xmas

I have no clue what Argentinian families do for xmas though-- but its obviously celebrated here. They're playing a little jingle on tv aotvm

The only time I went to a movie on Xmas it was sold out and I was amazed. I've driven on Xmas and no one is ever out. I think last time I ran several red lights.

i don't think its very unusual. something i've heard about people doing at least

although I don't really understand it. especially if you have family travel in or w/e-- who wants to sit at a movie for a couple hours and not talk? i'd rather be interacting and playing games, etc. you can go to the movies at any time
