Years of testing (for safety) is not what ever happens, and it’s important to clarify. Typically it’s years of waiting. Lots of red tape. Efficacy trials.

It’s important to note this because public confidence in vaccines is not high enough, and this exchange makes it sound like the vaccines were rushed. They weren’t. Testing was adequate. It was a miracle we have them in a year because this method worked. Obviously this has nothing to do with Trump, we should praise the scientists.

I’m fine saying the funding helped speed things up, it probably did. I’m glad Trump decided to fund some of it. Good on him. He made the right call, props.

Doesn’t change anything I said before. Doesn’t change the fact he’s golfing during a pandemic g20 event. Doesn’t change the fact he’s preventing Biden from working with vaccine rollout. Doesn’t change Ivankas lie about Moderna.

His response was horrific and cost many lives. I’m angry about it, no doubt. People dying and being put at risk intentionally.

It takes a horrific moral standing to try to stand by him during this. It disgusts me.

Mets,

I don’t know if you saw it earlier but you’re on ignore. Tired of goal post shifting, straw men, your lies, and dishonest exchanges. You can reply to me if you want but I want you to know I’m not ducking your questions. You’re just not worth my time.

Hi.

SARS and MERS were both coronaviruses. The medical community has been researching these for years now, and that’s the reason, literally the *only* reason, why they were able to make a vaccine for this coronavirus, COVID-19, so quickly.

Trump has absolutely less than zero to do with it.

I'm sure Mets is going to view this recent exchange as "everyone ganging up on him" again, but if just about every one of his posts contains a factual error, misleading statement, nonsense straw man or irrelevant tangent, I don't know what he expects to happen.

Is Middle East a derogatory or pejorative term? I thought it meant an area of the world. Like Far East and Upper Midwest. I can see where Deep South hints at something, but don’t see anything wrong with Middle East. Plus wiki and the CDC use MERS.

I see that Mets has chosen this off the menu for Sunday brunch.

My first thought is that China is a country and the Middle East is not, and the literature seems to support that naming things after a country is not a good idea, for tourism, trade and other stigma reasons.

It is good you are asking the question. I had several questions about things myself to today and tried Google. I found some things for you on your question.

Why not email WHO and ask how/why MERS got that name/acronym?

The MERS title was not designed to stigmatize Middle Easterners, afaik, or to minimize the US governments responsibility for responding to its outbreak.

Mets, please tell me you can see how pointing to China as late as August is clear scapegoating.

The problem I have with my tax dollars being used to perpetuate injustice isn't that they're my tax dollars, it's the injustice. Not paying taxes or moving to another country or living in the woods somewhere doesn't do anything for the the victims of injustice.

It's hardly surprising.

The cabinet is going to be filled with Obama retreads, establishment clowns and corporate dickbags.

It's why he was like my 25th favorite candidate during the primaries.

I saw a person panhandling at my local Costco today. It got me thinking... If I lost my job, my cabinets are bare and money in the wallet is almost zero, how do I survive? Assuming no friends or relatives to rely on.

I figured long term, I can apply for welfare, unemployment, food stamps/cards. But it's probably going to take a few weeks to a month to get that rolling. But what do you do in the short term?

Here's my best ideas:

Look for food pantries
Talk to local church leaders
Shoplift from grocery stores (gotta do what you gotta do...)
Costco samples (Pre/Post covid)

I think I would have a tough time begging on a corner. Am I missing any short term safety nets?

there is lots of good food in garbages

you could also commit a crime to get sent to jail.

also, being white, sane, nice, and well spoken, you can talk to small business owners and explain your situation, and probably one would help you out with a job, and maybe even a place to stay too.

i have actually begged before. and it's very very hard. i didn't have to, thank gaia. i was researching playing a homeless man. but it was a very powerful experience to be in that situation. people didn't want to look at me. i was an outcast. it was really brutal. heartbreaking
