I think you're best off just making sure you get lots of sunlight. Thats why flu season hits in the wintertime-- because lack of sunlight means less vitamin D, which helps to fight against the flu, and there is lots of research in support of that, which interestingly enough, one won't hear about from mainstream sources.

This is completely anecdotal but earlier this year, my doctor found that my vitamin D level was low. Normal range is 30 to 60. Mine was 27. Mainly because whenever I'm outside for awhile I wear sunscreen and a hat.
I've started taking a vitamin D supplement (2000 au) and since then I have never had a sore throat. (I have had runny noses)
