If you are hospitalized, or if some sort of emergency arises, the hospital has to at least allow you the contracted rate that they have with your insurance company. This stops the doctor/hospital/clinic from inflating your bill and charging you something like 60K for a hospital bill.
Right, 60K is the bill before the discounts for negotiated rates. It's actually only going to cost Blue Cross about 35K after my deductible. Fortunately I have a plan where I pay the first 2K every year and then they pay 100% with no co-insurance.

vegetarianism is a super poo fest imo, with almost no "veggie" alternatives trumping the real thing...except:

veggie lasagna.

i have such a crush on veggie lasagna.

Ok, well if you didn't have insurance they wouldn't have taken anything of your bill. That's my point as to why it's so important to have some sort of insurance. I have a friend in his 20's (poker player) who thinks insurance is a scam, but I've tried explaining to him that in the long run having catastrophe insurance is going to pay off. You are a prime example of that.

Canada for the no need for heatlh insurance win.

VR, dont you work for an insurance company? (perhaps not health insurance though)

chili's about the heat for me.

a hot/thick veggie chili >>> weak/soupy meat chili

also, don't like the beanless meat chilis. why no beans? does not compute

I work for an agency. We don't sell health insurance though. But we're a very small company, so I understand our health plan really well, since I'm the one that convinced the owner she needed to offer it, I did the shopping, and I chose the plan.

i'll agree with alice here, but again why would a person make a really good hearty chili and not put meat into it?
