HDR

it's both, you take the same picture multiple times with different tonal ranges, then map them onto each other with software. it's very easy to do badly, and very difficult to do tastefully.

OrangeRake, I know a couple of amateur / semi-professional photographers who started off just doing it as a hobbie. These are some of the things they did when starting up:

1) Entered the competitons in two amateur photography magazines. They run monthly competitions with a league system that was quite good for getting some of their work known among other photographers.

2) Set up their own websites with a store for people to buy the photos.

3) Sorted out a deal with a local framers to sell some of their photos, initially not making a profit, until a few of them had sold so they could argue for a better deal.

4) Sold them to family and friends and some of their businesses for a discounted rate. My parents have one of them up in our living room. This was great for promoting him through word of mouth.

5) Got a local restaurant to to display and sell them.

Once their names were a bit better known locally, they then started to receive offers for comissioned work and one of them was asked to do an exhibition at a small local gallery. I think the important thing is to follow as many avenues as you can to get people to be aware of your work and hope that that and word of mouth are enough to get you started. Hope this gives you a few ideas if you decide to take things further.

So I just skimmed the latest turbo and dustin said "too much nightposting imo"

I think nightposting doesn't have to be an angleshot and I want to make a movement to eliminating this angleshot aspect. I think the next average speed game (and/or just regular turbo) should be a "you can post 24/7 and you can post anything, anytime"

This is additionally good because that makes "average speed games" have like an extra eight hours of game time

Don't remember the exact rules but the guy who answered a question correctly got to pick who should answer the next one etc.
Somewhat interesting game theory/body language wise.
In the HU portion you could also ask yourself and got points = money (???) for each correct answer but still got nothing if you lost because your three lights were out.
don't remember exactly what happened when only one guy was left but I think he won money depending on how much he answered correctly and some sort of turbo question round where he could make more

The show has a somewhat famous brainfart when someone answered the question "What was the title of Ali's biography" with "Mein Kampf"
Sounds like you're describing '15 to 1', which i think was invented by the guy who presented (maybe still does?) it in the uk. As they go, it was quite a good game. I remember that if you won the whole series, then you won a trophy (that was a genuine piece of roman crap?) and a huge dictionary that was like 20 volumes large or something, but one year the guy who won was a ubervegan, and did't wan't anything leather bound, so they gave it to him on cd rom or something.

I'm actually not a huge fan of those weird saturated colours, but OR, you clearly have a very good eye for a photo.

Ya, HDR, like amp said. It has to do with the camera not being able to register more then one correct exposure at a time, so you essentially take a few exposures, one where the dark part of the image is exposed correctly and the rest is over exposed, and vice versa. Then either photoshop or other software combines them and you can play with the colors, the light blending, and contrast and stuff like that. It's really amazing and makes any photo look "pro" since amateurs are like "wow I could never take that." IMO that is what makes a photo look good to me....something that looks like I couldn't do it....LOL.

So are mine tasteful? I do tend to push the colours a bit, but then I like them to look a bit over the top rather then natural.

I have started to do a few of your suggestions.

1) Signed up for a mirco stock type site, where I can sell prints.
2) Started asking friends to do it free, hoping that they can recommend me to friends if they like my work
3) Working on a website to sell and pimp out my services
4) Entered a photo contest (I am currently in 2nd place out of like 40 entries....)
5) Signed up for photography forums and started posting my work.

As for #4, anyone wanna sign up for the site and vote for me?? LOL
I'd love to have "winner of blah blah blah" on my website...

Thanks. Ya I enjoy the saturated colors currently, just cuz I only recently found out how to do it, and to me it looks cool (cuz normally they don't turn out that way straight from the camera), but I am sure that phase will pass.
