Dustin I'd be stunned if you could do this

I'd put up $20 if you can do it with no penalty for failure

I'd obviously bet any amount you wanted but I'd kinda feel bad because I think you're overestimating your chances pretty significantly

Dustin, I'm not sure I would be able to do this, and given what I'm reading, I think my chances would be well higher than yours. I think 25% if probably slightly better than my true odds.

I've run one 10k, 37:52, and that was back when I was actually in training and running 30 miles a week. I would think you'd need at least a year of training to be able to hit 34. Best of luck to you, though.

not sure why you think you have a greater chance then me when I've ran a 10k faster then you

I do think thats its going to be very difficult and I've already said that I think I'm around 3-1 against.

However, the money is not important. Whats important is that I have a goal and that I start running again.

The money is to motivate me to start running

As far as additional action goes, I am definitely not willing to take any right now and I wouldn't for at least several months.

When I ran my 37:02 that was only on 5 months of training and I wasn't training specifically for that distance. So I would have more time plus an actual goal.

3 minutes is still a ton of time though.

Here is how I look at it:

If the bet was to run sub 36. Easy, super easy. I could do it in a few months imo.

Sub 35. Harder. But definitely in reach in 7 months.

Sub 34 is going to be very difficult though.

My dad was a marathoner btw. His best marathon time was 2:39 (I believe) and I think his 10k pr is around 32:30.

But he is 6'1'' and probably weighed around 170 when he was running. I am only 5'10'' an weight around 140, and am much better built for running than him.

btw I can't even imagine running a sub 34 5k at this point. my last one was about 42.

Maybe we should start a pool for people interested in buying smaller action if you want a bigger bet. I'd be willing to bet 20$ against you...so let's get 9 more people and you doubled your bet :P

I certainly wouldn't be taking any more action when its significantly -ev for me to do so.

I made the initial bet to motivate me, not to profit.

So if you want to make this bet with me then 1) I need odds or 2) I would need to wait to make sure I can stay healthy.

I'll be going out on my first run tonight in around 90 minutes.

Dustin,

I'm rooting for you for two reasons:

1. I always root for people to achieve their goals, as long as their goals don't harm me or my interests.

2. I love it when my brother loses a bet.

Even though I'm betting against you I'll actually be pretty stoked if you pull it off. However, for full motivational potential I will periodically mock your lack of progress, and thank you for the 35 triple stacker value meals. om nom nom nom

ok, first run is in the books.

4.2 miles in 33:51- just under what I'd like to do 6.2 miles in 7 months from now

It wasn't without difficulty. The temperature right now is 92. I started cramping a little around halfway through but ran through it. Legs felt fine. Cardiovascularly I did not feel fine.

couch to 7k in 0 days imo

*edit, now time for bong hits

Man, I wish I could just get off the sofa and run 4.2 miles.

EDIT: I had added "that fast" to the end of that sentence, then realized it wasn't needed, LOL.

Wait that's only 2.4 liters of high% beer?
Too bad I'm not a good speed drinker but the game sounds awesome and will be implemented at the next party I attend or host for sure.
