Clearly you were over ambitious in the shoveling department.

Tonight is a very traditional pot roast with pearl onions, fingerling potatos and parsnips.

Tomorrow better be the best roast chicken ever. We were at Wegmans and the baby was getting sick of shopping so my wife sent me to grab a roasting chicken. Standard 4 pound chicken. The place was mobbed so I just grabbed the first one I saw. It turned out to be raised by some hippies on organic grain, roaming free and certified by several rabbis. At Giant this chicken would be $4-5. This one is $21.

Apple Sausage Quiche
(source: Accidental Hedonist website)

1/2 lb. mild Italian Sausage
1/2 cup chopped sweet yellow onion
1/4 teaspoon thyme
1 large Red Delicious Apple, pared and cut into 1/2" cubes
1 Tablespoon lemon juice
1 Tablespoon sugar
1/2 cup of shredded cheddar cheese
4 eggs, beaten
1 1/2 cups whole Milk
1 9" pie shell

Pre-heat ovento 350 Degrees F.

In a skillet, fry up the Italian sausage, onion and thyme. Cook until onions are translucent. Remove from heat, drain off any excess fat and set aside.

In a bowl, toss apple cubes with lemon juice and sugar. Add eggs, milk and cheese, mixing well. Pour into pie shell. Dot the top with sausage.

Place quiche into oven and Bake for 45 minutes. Remove from oven and allow to set for 15 minutes.

Serves 6

I'm going to use Granny Smith apples (and I'm leaving the peel on, because I generally like a touch of texture in savory dishes), 1% milk because that's all we buy, and a sharp white cheddar cheese, and a purchased pie crust because I don't feel like messing with it.

Wow. The certified organic and hormone free U.S. raised leg of lamb we're having tonight was less than that (albeit not by much).

my argentinian lady friend wrote me today. she said she's been sick for the last few days but that she did want to see me today, and that she thinks she'll be feeling better by monday and that we can go out then....so we'll see. i assuming that she wouldn't have written me if she was no longer interested, but i don't really know and i've heard that girls here can be flaky

Pho is the single most perfect food on earth. Definite win.

My wife and I went to Rasika in DC for lunch last week. It is largely regarded as the best fine Indian restaurant in the US. They do this amazing salad that I would kill to know how to make of tomatoes with a yogurt dressing and flash fried spicy spinach. The spinach looks like normal spinach but it turns into this melt in your mouth miracle. Great restaurant.

Call me if you do. I have pho about three lunches a week, often at Pho 75. The place next door, DC Sandwich is also an awesom Bahn Mi shop. I went on a huge Bahn Mi kick this summer, but haven't had one in a while.

I wish I could find even a good Indian restaurant around here. Everywhere we try is just disappointing, even the places people say we "have to try".

I love Indian food, I just want to find a place that makes it like my college roommate's mom does.

And there's no place to get a bahn mi, period, unless I visit my brother in LA.

bahn mi are so good. where do you go for them? also, are there multiple pho 75s? i think there are. the one i'm thinking of is in a small shopping center roslyn next to a shipping store, a mexican restaurant and a liquor store

vietnamese is awesome, raw spring roll things, soft shell crab and pho. My only problem with pho is that the real deal has all sorts of stomach-lining in it, and that's not going in my mouth, so i have to have a bastardised version.

i usually go for the soft tendon. its kind of a compromise between the authentic stuff and the safe gringo cuts of meat they have on the menu to help mainstream their appeal

reno: pho 15 just opened up in Columbia Heights - while I have limited experience to compare it to, I will say its pretty awesome. They also offer tripe pho and all that goodness.

Yeah, there must be multiple. The original main one is on Route 50 and Annandale Road in Falls Church. The only bahn mi shops I know about are two in that neighborhood and then of course Eden Center further over by 66. There was one in Springfield, but it shut down. The best is in a nondescript shopping plaza off Lee Hwy and bizzarely it is open 24 hours a day.
