preemptive scoring ruling: on short track skating, I'm ruling the "A" final as the only final.
POG Big Brother - Game Thread Quote

i don't think anyone will have a problem with that

Um, I have a problem with only the A Final being counted as a final. My Bronze guy was only in the B Final, so I'm probably the only one affected by the ruling.

Short Track Men's 1500m

1. Ho-Suk Lee, South Korea
2. J.R. Celski, USA
3. Charles Hamelin, Canada

Freestyle Skiing, Women's Moguls

1. Jennifer Heil, Canada
2. Aiko Uemura, Japan
3. Hannah Kearney, USA

But why do I only have 25 points?

Ho-Suk Lee - picked the wrong Lee, but a South Korean still medaled, so 5 points
J.R. Celski - put him one place too high, but 2 Americans medaled, so 10 points

Jenn Heil - she still medaled, so 5 points
Hannah Kearney - did better than I wanted, 15 points
Two Americans medaled, so 10 points

That's 45 - even if you throw in -5 for Hamelin, I should have 40. Unless I misunderstood the allocation of points?

pretty sure the B final wasn't for medals...

Also I think everyone who put 3 South Koreans in the speed skating should get 15 points for that. 5 points for each person, since 1 South Korean medaled. If it had been a sweep, that aspect of scoring would be 45 (which is why people did it - never occurred to me, which is why I will lose regardless). Everyone's score is probably higher than listed.

Ya, this is right.

As far as the speed skating finals.. if they both got medals should both count. If they didn't, they clearly shouldn't since points are handed out based on medals. Not place finished.

To be honest I don't really understand the scoring that well. I only read it once and seemed confusing.

So I had 2 Americans in Womens Mogul on pedastal (one exceeding my expectation).. and 2 Americans medal'd.

How does that stack?

The multi-finals thing will matter moreso in the snowboard cross. Here is how the 2006 went down:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snowboa...nowboard_cross

So, does that mean there are only 4 boarders in the "Final"? Due to the randomness of this event, expect a lot of -5 deductions here. They also have a "small final" race, which means if you picked one of the final 8, you're good (in my opinion).

Chim - no medals for B Final - just determining rankings 8-14 (or whatever). It's not a huge deal for me, but could become an issue for the snowboard, where many people might be affected. If we're staying consistent, then only the last 4 will not incur deductions.

I think you get 15 for the winner, and 20 for the country/medalists (which was nich's example). 35 points.

I see what you're saying on the -5.

Technically it is a final.

Good point, I seem to think the deductions should not take place if any event has the "final" title in it.

I'm in the middle of a session, so I haven't looked at the scoring yet.

However, I think that "B" finals shouldn't count because you don't try to qualify for the "B" final. It's only for ranking, not medals (except for maybe a bronze if there are lots of DQs).

I see both sides of the issue and I'll do whatever most want me to do. (or what nich wants if he comes in here)

I kinda wish I knew how people looked at it.

Are B finalists disappointed they didn't make the finals? I would assume so.. which makes me think the deduction should happen.

Can someone be a finalist without having a chance to medal?

I've gone back and forth.

B finals only determines 7th and 8th place. It would be beyond stupid to count it.

It'd be like arguing that the winner of the 3rd place World Cup game deserves something better than the loser of the Finals.
