a couple of minor rules amendments that i'll incorporate into the draft thread OP:

1) While you can draft multiple things from one category (except Job and Country), you must have stuff from at least six discrete categories by the end of the draft. So, assuming a 10 round draft, two slots will be filled with Job and Country and you'll need to fill the remaining eight slots from at least four other categories.

2) You may not draft more than two Cities, more than two Vacation Spots, or more than two Best Friends. (If you draft two Cities, it's assumed that you split your time between them when you're not vacationing. And you can definitely vacation in places other than your Vacation Spot, as long as they're not drafted by someone else; your Vacation Spot is just where you own a place to stay and enjoy returning to year after year.)

3) So, with the above rules in mind, the number of slots you can fill from each category in a 10-round draft is as follows:

Job (1)
Hobby/Skill (0-5)
Romantic Partner (0-5)
Best Friend (0-2)
Country (1)
City (0-2)
Vacation Spot (0-2)
Sports and Recreation (0-5)
Food and Drink (0-5)
Hospitality (0-5)
Invention (0-5)
Perks (0-5)

tho a diverse portfolio is probably more interesting and evocative

two questions

1. does the job have to be around 25 hours per week, or is that just a suggestion. Many dream jobs have longer hours. If is something you love to do, hours don't matter as much.

2. Does the city you pick to live in have to be in the country you pick. Seems like an obv yes, but the wording confused me a bit.

thx

thx

if we make it through the whole thing, then we can figure out how to pick a winner (probably a combination of drafters voting and the input of a few objective volunteers)

quality of writeup and debating people's picks is, as always, what makes this so much fun

hopefully there shouldn't be too many disputes about whether drafting X eliminates Y and Z from being drafted, given the depth of the draft; just make a good faith effort not to draft something that could reasonably construed as overlapping with a previously drafted item

i'll be the final arbiter on such questions, should they arise, but if they're generating interesting discussion then we can bat them around and i'll take consensus strongly into account

1. Thanks for this question; I was going to tweak the wording in the OP of the draft thread. The job should be something that would occupy at least 25 hours per week, but can take up as many hours that you want beyond that. I know some people's idea of a perfect life involves working as little as possible, so putting a floor on the hours is a way to make the category meaningful and at least somewhat grounded. I encourage people to think of jobs that they would love and that would require much longer hours; it's more interesting that way.

2. The city you draft does not have to be in the country you draft. If you draft Dubuque, Iowa as your city and Eastern Sydonia as your country, then for the purposes of the draft, Dubuque will be moved to the most suitable and liveable part of Eastern Sydonia (you don't need to specify how the attractive qualities of the city you draft complement the attractive qualities of the country you draft, but it would be fun if people did). Let me know if you have more questions about this.

Meh, maybe I'll say that you can't use more than 3 slots for any other single category either

Don't want this to turn into "look how much I can buff myself up"
05-24-2016 , 12:27 PM
Ok, im out.
05-24-2016 , 12:35 PM
12 is a good round number; I'll put up the draft thread in a bit

obv welcome to join again if you want, bigger

you can still draft three!

(and have as much action on the side with unnamed randos as you want, if you really think you could do that to your trio of loving sister-wives)
05-24-2016 , 01:07 PM
What if you don't care about romance? Can you draft a platonic life partner or something similar?
