I would usually give a 1 clue so they don’t think I want them to go for the game, but there is an important caveat that I outline in 1./2. below

So I can’t go 1 clue there, which is my standard when I don’t want them to go for the win

By going Wembley, I give them the 3rd Preakness word so they may drop lead...I also know they are gonna go band over piano 90% of the time so they won’t say lead and help us...then I’ll clue the final word next turn...especially as blue has a ton of words left and is nowhere on triangle widow and then has words that I don’t see a connection for

And if he’s on that level, he also can be thinking that it may even keep us from going lead, further ensuring he gets another turn.



So yeah, I’ve posted before about going 1 clue then 2 clue when you have 3 left and can’t win so you don’t have your team think they should be going for it (only if there is a word out there they can possibly guess)

But the rule only applies when the 2 clue can be gotten in ONE turn, otherwise you need to say it first...


1. He doesn’t have a way to get them to say piano over band so NEEDS to go with wembley first so they can get it in two turns...if he goes “inner - 1” for tube first then Wembley - 2 the next time they still say band and it’ll take 3 turns...go Wembley - 2 first then get band out of the way and inner - 1 next is bottles.

2. So in that case, you gotta go with the 2 first...the rule to go 1 then 2 is really when the 2 is solid, not when it’s almost surely gonna hit a neutral the first time

I disagree with basically that entire post. If you give a 1 clue, then you know not to say lead. Also, you're talking about if their words are stadium/tube/piano, which is not what I think at all. And you're making out like Wembley is the only way to link stadium with piano, when there are better ways to do it that also avoid you saying band first.

Anyway, I'm sick of arguing about it.

I had the Link clue early on, but switched off of it. I wasn't sure it would be understood, but I should have known based on the Gauntlet clue that nich was well versed in video games.


Widow was web, poison, and triangle. I just didn't consider that glass would be said for hourglass, but I should have.

Ball was a case of me thinking of a new clue at the last second, being a little too proud of it, and then not checking properly. At least eye was only neutral.

The Link - 4 was a complete hail Mary because they were ~always winning the next turn. Missing word was crane, because it can link stuff, maybe has chains, etc. Super weak and I wasn't really expecting it to work very often.

Sigh. Pretty frustrating because I pretty much knew I was right, but Nich is one stubborn cookie.

I don't think you were ever going to say crane, so the red word doesn't really matter too much. Nice job getting 4/5 in the end. We made 'em sweat a little anyway.

I thought my logic for why tube and lead were the final red words made perfect sense too.

We could have had a chance. It's not like I was sold on apple, and crane was really the only other word that fit.

Well that happened.

Trump - Wall/Washington/Bank - Actually thought you would say roulette but that it was okay because blue had a tough board.

Preakness - Lap/Whip/Stadium - IBD got this right away, then was convinced about pass (which I thought was plausible) and lead (which I didn't even consider)

Was planning on doing pipe third for Glass/Lead/Tube (probably why I never thought of lead; I was pronouncing it wrong).

But with Lead as your next guess I had to come up with a Stadium/Tube combo. Not what I wanted at all, and I probably should have come up with something better than Wembley.

Got there in the end though. D1iab pretty much had everything nailed down, but he was on the other team.
