That doesn't mean that all good die young, and since he didn't die young, he's bad. Just that good ones die young.

Here Comes Your Walrus REVEAL ~ Now with more blubber!

My power is out, guys

Hopefully it comes back soon and I can reveal tonight.

Binkles, Vertigo is one of those movies that can seem slow and non-eventful on first watch but gets richer over time. It's a movie about obsession, so it helps if you become obsessed with it.

Vertigo has some of the best acting you will ever see on film.

Also, San Francisco GOAT.

I had like 2/3rds of an entry filled out for this and then never got around to finishing it. How would The Conversation have scored for that category?

The Conversation.....

Spoiler:
You're team number ONE! I love The Conversation.

To those who think Vertigo should have been dinged because it was too obvious. I get the point, and there will certainly be obvious choices dinged going forward, but Vertigo was voted the greatest movie ever made anywhere at any time in the most recent Sight and Sound poll (and they are international-heavy, 20 out of the top 30 films are non English speaking).

Not to mention it *sidelines* as the single best travelogue of a city in the history of cinema. So it fit all kinds of stuff there.

I will be rolling category #3 pretty soon.

And ftr, I inserted mexineil's cat #2 submission into this (and as someone who has experience inserting things into walruses I can tell you it was nice) and here is where he placed:

Primus - Wynona's Big Brown Beaver

I like this much more than JWARD, better melody, funnier lyrics, its groove just found me better.

He gets 7 points for 15th place (right under Dirty Harry, over Wicked Game). Scores will be updated.

HERE WE GO!

3. Out on my own! Music: A song by one of the Beatles as a solo artist, or with another band OR Movie: A film directed by someone who is mainly known as an actor.

In 19th, 20th, and 21st place scoring 2 points each

Spoiler:

$5 Bill, filthyvermin, and mexineil with Gran Torino by Clint Eastwood

Sorry guys, this movie's just not that good. Like it doesn't sniff Eastwood's top 5 as a director. I like corny sentiment, but this movie just revels in it too much.

Spoiler:
Kaidus with Stand By Me by John Lennon
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4vSWHkxZgOI

Love this song, never liked this version. It's hardly a terrible selection, but it just kept getting pushed down the list.

thebigeasy59 with Runaway by The Traveling Wilburys
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qEPx9bkpkh8

Again, the original is a fantastic record, as is Bonnie Raitt's cover of it. And I know couple of these guys produced a Del Shannon comeback album, and thus have affection for the material, and it's definitely listenable, but just entirely unremarkable. And with all those iconic voices, why do you let Jeff Lynne sing lead?

Aksdal with My Valentine by Paul McCartney
http://youtu.be/f4dzzv81X9w

Oh Paul, you're doing your best here and I admire it. But it just makes me wistful. At least it's not as terrible as that Vanilla Sky song that was so obviously awful, the fricking phoniest of all phony bodies, the Motion Picture Academy, couldn't even muster up their own hypocrisy enough to award him a sentimental Oscar.

Spoiler:
vginaman with Yer Blues by Dirty Mac
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hFoDObEIFDg

I love, love, love Yer Blues, but it's a Beatles song. And the White Album recording and production sounds much better than this one, despite the immensely talented backing players (this is from the Rock and Roll Circus album).

gambit8888 with Jealous Guy by John Lennon
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DzhyKn1ThpU

A good song. Might have scored a notch or two higher if it weren't re-released as a single when that biopic film came out, but compared to the rawness of the Plastic Ono Band album and a few of his other songs after that, I just can't get too behind it. In general, I like righteous, angry John more than heartfelt, introspective Lennon. With some exceptions, but this isn't quite one.

The Town is very solid. Watched it a few times, enjoy it. Just outclassed by a lot of the other selections here.

LKJ with Braveheart by Mel Gibson

An impressive effort by Gibson behind and in front of the camera, to be sure. But it won a bunch of Oscars, it hasn't held up tremendously, and there are many more inspired choices.
