OK, you know the normal rules for Guesstimania. Simply submit, in an unnumbered list, your answer for the following 20 questions spanning the gamut of sports. (Well, most of the gamut anyway).

No research allowed.

I will be working on a scoring system for this more similar to the first Guesstimania game rather than the 1-5 system used more recently. I am still working out the bugs, but suffice to say your score for each question will depend primarily on your distance from the correct answer relative to other players, and much less (if at all) on your absolute ranking relative to other players.

I am also considering a small bonus for the winner of each section (as outlined below).

Deadline TBA, but likely not before the weekend, so you have some time to think on these.

In case you missed it, No research allowed.

The questions:

Baseball. (all stats courtesy baseball-reference.com)

1. Total base hits by the Washington Nationals in 2009.

2. Number of World Series games played (not including any in 2009, in case the game runs that long).

3. Greg Maddux's career base hits (as a batter), not including postseason.

4. Total wins in Houston Astros franchise history (includes time as the Houston Colt .45s).

Basketball. (all stats courtesy basketball-reference.com)

5. Total missed free throws by the 2008-2009 Sacramento Kings.

6. Total career playoff games in which Wilt Chamberlain played.

7. Michael Jordan's career rebounds.

8. Total NBA wins in Los Angeles Lakers regular season franchise history (includes time as Minneapolis Lakers, does not include any time in leagues other than the NBA).

Pro Football. (all stats courtesy pro-football-reference.com)

9. Total yards gained (passing + rushing) by the 2008 Detroit Lions.

10. Total points scored in Super Bowl history.

11. Total rushing yards by Brett Favre during his time with the Green Bay Packers.

12. Total wins in Seattle Seahawks franchise history as of today, October 20, 2009.

Miscellaneous.

13. Total strokes taken by Tiger Woods in PGA Tour-sanctioned events in 2009 (whatever is listed on his pgatour.com player page).

14. Total career 300 games bowled by Walter Ray Williams, Jr. in PBA events. (PBA Tour bio page)

15. Total laps completed by participants in the 2009 Indianapolis 500. (http://www.indy500.com/stats/view/boxscore/year/2009)

16. Total goals scored in the English Premier League in 2008. (www.premierleague.com)

17. Total touchdowns scored by former University of Michigan players in NFL games (http://www.pro-football-reference.com/colleges/)

18. Total laps run by the winners of Formula One events in 2008 (http://www.formula1.com/results/season/2008/)

19. Total career penalty minutes for Steve Yzerman in regular season NHL games. (hockey-reference.com)

For #20, are you adding up the countries' medal counts, or are you going by the physical number of medals handed out (~15 for a basketball team, etc.)?

Is total base hits just total hits? Not total bases or just singles or something.

I am not asking for total singles, if that is what you are asking.

You say "no research" and then include links to the exact answers...i'm kinda new to pog but that seems irresponsible and practically ensures that some people will definitely click the link and look up the answers...is this standard and intended, or did you accidentally post them?

yes, i realize that anybody could just google stuff, but at least that's an extra few clicks. Sort of the addage that locks on your door keep honest people honest. maybe not posting links to the answers would keep honest people honest. Sure cheaters will still go out of their way to cheat, but no reason to make it easy...

We've always operated on the honor system here. Even if the quiz doesn't list a source, it's trivially easy to google "total base hits". So not listing the source doesn't really accomplish much. But listing the source can clear up confusion. By listing the source, you'd know if the list includes, e.g., foreign box office receipts or just US.

For this quiz, it's not really necessary, but for other quizzes, it is.

I agree, those who want want to be honest will still not click the links, those who want to cheat will cheat even if there aren't links.

hey that's no excuse. Timelady's from your neck of the bog and she managed to come within THREE on my guesstimania question of how many double plays Pete Rose hit into during his career. (actual answer: 247. TL's guess: 250)

so let that be an, um, inspiration to you.

FYP, and I actually think I've done ok considering the questions. Luckily I know roughly how many games are in each sport's season, so I shouldn't be a million miles away.
