Vassal is a really good program but does not enforce the rules of any game you play on it so you need to look after that yourself. Very handy for PBEM or simultaneous play.

You can play some games online at www.wargameroom.com mainly Twilight Struggle or Paths of Glory.

I would really be interested in someone that would be willing to play Twilight Struggle with a relative noob. I have preordered the P500 German copy for ages now...I belive it has been delayed since 2009 or something crazy.

May dad and people from his generation (i.e. old enough to comprehend the cold war while living through it) are kind of the only people I will be able to play this against live ever thus the need for the german version.

Would also love to play Labyrinth: War on Terror which is pretty much like TS except it's US vs Jihadists (some may find this slightly offensive :P)

Is there some kind of online vehicle for TS? I've played it a couple times and loved it, but my fiancee hates it.

if TS=Twilight Struggle then yes, www.wargameroom.com (a couple of posts above yours). I've heard this is a bit superior to Vassel.

I'll PM you my Skype over the weekend or something and we can discuss it next week. I need to refresh my rules knowledge a bit and get used to the software. I guess whoever wants to play we'll probably go with a somewhat open/friendly trial game first anyways. At least I'd kind of like to be able to talk over "oh ok I have card X here, why the hell doesn't the software let me do Y" etc.

Think I've said it before but puerto rico rules due to lack of variance.

settlers of catan, all expansions is still my best seller. some of the other games are caylus, illuminati, and one not mentioned here yet, titan. it was just reprinted about a year back and if you want to play a great board game try that one.

Don't know if it's been mentioned (reading thread from newest to lastest), but I got my husband 7 Wonders for Christmas and he is thoroughly enjoying it. We do game night every Friday and he's really eager to play with the whole family.

I got him the Munchkin board game. too, but we haven't tried that one yet.

Yep, yep, we loves da settlers. My kids play titan continuously. My husband has illuminati, but we haven't played it yet. He got the entire original set off ebay and I think he's afraid we'll cooty-fi it.

Ye well pr got prettystupid in the end for us since we knew just from randoming positions who would win. That said we played it ALOT. Now we are back into it after long time away because a friend got some special collectors edition with two expansions or something with it, actual ships now and gfx update, agricola style on mats and such. Really fun now when we random purples , makes alot of the game feel fresh and exciting again

Yeah 7 Wonders is prob the most played with the casual crowd here (family etc) took that place from Ticket to Ride.
It's pretty fun and I love that it plays so quickly due to the simultaneous action + plays 7 players as well

The online version at BSW is pretty good but sometimes hangs/crashes.

Hey guys,

looking for some recommendations. I own

i) Ingenious. Have only played it 2 handed, really enjoy it. Want to play is 3/4 handed.
ii) Puerto Rico.
iii) Bohnanza.

Thinking of adding another game. Choosing between Power Grid, Ticket to Ride: Europe, Ticket to Ride: Nordic countries, 7 Wonders, Dominion.

I really enjoy playing Ingenious 2 handed, but was thinking of adding one of the above for multiplayer. I hear great things about Dominion, how long would it take to learn and explain the rules? It looks really lengthy, I'm not sure if my friends would enjoy that.

Thanks!!!

no great recommendations, it's been a while since i played much at all, but just to say that I recall thinking that ingenious was strategically almost a different game 3/4 way than it was 2 way.

It really depends on who you play with, I think. Ticket to Ride is a fun game with casual gamers because the strategy is pretty easy to figure out, yet it's still much more fun than most "traditional" board games. But it's not nearly as deep as Dominion (haven't played the others in your list.) Dominion isn't really a difficult game to learn (three phases to each turn, and just read the cards to figure out what you are supposed to do). But it is a difficult game to get good at, imo.

Nice thing about Dominion is that you can play online for free at
http://dominion.isotropic.org/

Also, there's a Dominion tournament here on POG, if you want to get some practice. It's too late to get in on this tourney, but I'm sure there'll be another tourney soon.

Power Grid is a fun game, but I don't like the fact that you play the game for 1.5 hours or so and then 90% of the outcome of the game is determined by the last 2 turns.

Ticket to Ride in general is great for casual gamers (think girls/casual gamers)

Dominion is really good for board game newbs and is highly addictive, quick to play, and everybody evolves rapidly and games are continuously challenging. Very quick to learn also.

7 Wonders is also very good.

If you're primary concern is being able to get your friends into games, I would order them like this:

1)Ticket To Ride
2)Dominion
3)7 Wonders
4) Power Grid

Yeah Dominion is pretty quick and easy to learn.

There is a full game being played in 3 minutes. Obviously playing the real version with cards takes longer, and more people longer it takes, but still. If you play with just the base set it is pretty simple. Each expansion adds a little more complexity, so if they like the base set, keep buying them. Each expansion makes the game more fun imo.

Hit me up sometime if you want to play online

But really can't go wrong with any of those choices

Dominion is supereasy to learn/pickup. The Ticket to Ride games may be even easier
7 Wonders is also fairly easy to learn...pretty much what your games have in common. Easy to learn but fun to play. Power Grid is more similar to Puerto Rico (more complicated simgame kind of).

TTR is pretty much the perfect "play with nongamer folks to get them hooked on non-risk/monopoly games" but I think I'd buy 7 Wonders in your position. It's just a great game all around, no deadtime due to simultaneous-ish actions is pretty great and it plays quickly.

Both Dominion and 7 Wonders are kind of in the "easy to learn but hard to master" camp. TTR is easy to learn and fairly ABC to get good at.
