I'm glad you liked my submission, eb. I was kind of Walrus'd out and not sure I even wanted to play, but then I saw your category and came across that song and knew I had to sign up. That song has been heavy in my rotation for the last month.
I have already posted this before, but I’ll have to repeat myself: whoever submitted the Super Furry Animals (a Welsh rock band) to my category should submit another song to Donk as soon as possible. I am planning to reveal tomorrow evening.
Under the Radar Post 2000 Indie Songs with a Female Lead
In the mid-late 80's 10,000 Maniacs were a staple in my rotation (people forget how different they were and were pretty high up on the college rock totem pole). Obi I have regaled the thread with the greatness of Kate Bush. Also at various times have liked Tori Amos, The Go Gos, The Breeders, The Sundays, The Cranberries, blah blah blah
Recently other than Florence int he late 2000's and a few others here and there I don't hear many female voices I am excited about.
Nothing in these submissions blew me away. A lot of decent but unspectacular songs IMO. Without further ado:

Spoiler:
A lot going on here musically; not sure I like those horns too much. This song might rise with some re-listens. Certainly a pretty voice
Subsequent Takes:
Spoiler:
I like it but don't love it. Something just seems off. I don't care for her voice combined with the horns. Like they are trying to harmonize the voice/brass...nah Just never seems to grab me. Probably won't listen to again but wouldn't turn off if it came on

Singer has a smoky almost raspy delivery a la Adele or something. Should be middle of the pack. Not sure why this needs to be over 4:30. Expect to be middle of the pack.
Subsequent Take:
Spoiler:
Never really grabbed me either. A few little short guitar solos that seem like they don't really add much. I like her voice but she never really explores any range. Sort of milk toasty but not awful.

Certainly the punkiest of the entries. Clearly influenced by Pixies/The Breeders. Like her voice a lot. Don't ask me why but her voice and the gutiar riff reminds me of an early No Doubt type song.
Subsequent Take
Spoiler:
Has a good flow. Like the chorus a good bit. Some of the guitar work is also quite good. I would listen to it again.
I won't be surprised to finish anywhere in this category. Back when the original Napster was going strong I was downloading free music like crazy and I accidentally picked up the song which I submitted in this category (mis-labeled as another song by a different band). I liked it back then and remembered it for this walrus. Hopefully slim likes it too.
