If there's one thing this game proves it's how much harder it is to ruin a game with too much death than with too little. That event with the 50% deaths and unblockable vigs and **** was pretty much the most random and non-werewolf thing ever, but the reaction in postgame has mostly been "that was ridiculous, but i had fun in the game". Villaging in games where it's super hard to kill people is a pretty miserable experience. The worst is when wolves taunt the village into attacking an unkillable wolf or the "wrong" wolf or whatever and then act like baiting villages into killing outed wolves is some super elite strategy.

Also, this is everyone's notice that my performance in this game is the new normal for me. Working a job I just don't get a lot of time to play. I might not sign up again for a game that doesn't have early SODs, If I can't play in the evening then I pretty much can't play, so the thread opening at 12:30am (9am EST) makes things very difficult. Not only can I not play in the evenings but if I get up at like 6:30am to play, the thread has been open for 6 hours and there's like 20 pages to wade through before I can make informed posts.

Yeah I'll take this opportunity to soapbox about that a bit again. They're just not a fun role. They're not particularly fun to play because you're a PR but usually the choices are obvious and you frequently don't influence the game much. It's mildly fun to prevent a death, but that's counterbalanced by the much greater annoyance of the player(s) who were trying to kill that person, and the ever-present mild level of annoyance of having to play levelling guessing games about who might be angeled rather than the enjoyable task of working out who deserves to die.

Everyone just throws them in games because they're a stock role and they never break the game. Nobody in the history of werewolf has ever played a game without angels and said afterwards "game needed more angels".

I disagree pretty much with all of this. being randed Angel is excellent, it adds a lot of dimension to your game and even stopping a single NK can be game breaking.

Yes it is annoying for the wolf team to find out one of their targets didn't die, but it adds a lot more strategy to their game and NA decisions will be less straightforward.

That said, I don't think angels are needed at all in ww games. But people like to be randed PRs and we can't all be seers.

There's should only be a few plain vanillas in WW.
I ran games with all PRs and it worked out nicely. Being a vanilla was a special job lol

Meh. The problem is that when you do prevent a NK, it wasnt really you unless you want to be like the bloke at the casino one time who told me he was great at baccarat. Angeling could be done by a computer and pretty much succeeds or fails at random.

Problem is similar for wolf teams. I know you play bridge gabe, so you know the difference between strategic depth and complexity. A lot of games generate complexity simply by having complex rules, which is not fun. The possible existence of an angel is another factor for wolf teams to consider, but its just complexity, not added strategy in any fun sense. Would you say trying to factor in angel activity has ever been fun for you as a wolf? its more just annoying.

Vanillas are fine if the ITA % is high.

I think mods should consider having like 33% ITA hit rate - for all villagers.
50% hit rate for wolves on vanilla villagers and decreasing power depending upon the villager PR and the wolves have like 1/10 chance against wolves vs wolves.

I think if those % are known - and you balance for them - I think you get the best result. ITAs should have more deaths - everyone complains about them not having enough death but you need to give wolves some bigger advantage to shoot at villas and some cover for them to shoot vs other wolves.

With 1/5 chance of killing a villager the wolves are risking too much to just gangland style go after the village. make it one and 2 with some tactical variability - they will go after the village.

Yeah I'd rather have higher ITA hit%, less defence against wolf kills and more powerful wolves. More death = more better.

The only time I don't like death is when it can't be traced back to a decision of any player. I remember when domer was a "granny" in Scorcese mash, which is a role that reflects back any power aimed at it. I was a wolf and we had an extremely well hidden vig who shot domer and therefore died. That just sucks imo, because he didn't enter an event nor did anyone kill him.

Obviously high carnage rando mashes aren't exactly the Cadillac of werewolf, but that's what we have vanillas and small vanilla+s for.

ChrisV, I will do GOT 5 if it's a thing next year and I promise you no angels or lynch-****ing mechanics.

I love grannies though. You're conceiving of them wrongly imo.

I have to promise no angels because Moocher is the most rabid no-angel proponent and we have mod chemistry that is like two minds poured into one.
