Preliminary Round

There will be a dartboard with 9 different categories of trivia question. There are more than 9 possible categories, but only 9 will appear on the dartboard at any time.

Each player will get a chance to throw four darts and select four categories for his partner to answer a trivia question from. Poggers are more accurate than non-poggers at selecting categories. There will also be some questions where Poggers' specialized knowledge will be useful. Each question will be worth one point. The four teams with the highest score will go through to the next round.

You may confer with your partner about preferred categories, etc, only until I post the first dartboard tomorrow morning. After that you may not confer until the end of the preliminary round. You may not under any circumstances confer with your partner or any other person or use any outside source for answering the questions or researching possible future questions once the game starts.

Each member of the winning team will get 4 points towards the POG Championship and each member of the runners up will get 2 points. If you aren't interested in the Championship, you can just ignore this.

Because there are a lot of non-poggers in this game, there are a few things I should mention.

• Like a lot of POG games, this works on the honour system. Don't abuse it.
• Don't edit any posts unless the mod asks you to. It's useful to have a record of exactly what was said.
• Do not mention POG Championship points in this thread. This comes direct from Hitch, and he wants to enforce this strictly.
• Any team not showing up in full on Monday will be forfeited.

Any questions, you can ask in here. I'm deliberately not revealing all the aspects of the gameplay until tomorrow though.

making it mandatory that the teams have one pogger, and one non pogger, and then disqualifying teams that dont show up for day one, is quite unfair imo
if we were allowed pgger/pogger, then yeah, fine, but poggers have to now rely on people have no idea will be around?

Wait, are you saying that we can't discuss with our partners what to aim for on the dartboard once the dartboard is shown? I think that kind of negates the concept of trying for a certain category.

From now on you may not discuss the categories with your partner.

I'd like to say you may not discuss anything with your partner but that would be a little unfair to Zurvan and aardvarks. You may not discuss anything game related except trivial stuff like "get online now and answer some questions".

Here's the first dartboard:


The bullseye represents general knowledge.

You each must throw a dart to pick a question category.

When throwing darts, Poggers are 80% accurate. They hit their intended category 80% of the time and either adjacent category 10% of the time. If they aim for the bullseye, they hit it 60% of the time and a random other category 40% of the time.

Non-poggers are 50% accurate. They hit their chosen category 50% of the time, either adjacent category 20% of the time, and a random other category 10% of the time. Going for the bull, they hit it 36% of the time and a random other category 64% of the time.

The questions are the same for both sets of players, each question will be randed from my list.

Remember, you are throwing a dart to pick a question for your partner, not for you.

I need a dart from each player by the end of the day (8am GMT). Post the category you are aiming for in bold. Hopefully in other days we will get 2 or more questions in but first I need to see that everyone is here.
