at first glance without looking at more than what i know, i like what dan's getting by a small-medium margin.

he gave up two pitchers on bad teams (/system for a bad team) that have been unreliable and got a lot of upside in return.

It's interesting since both prospects took a pretty decent stock hit from the trade imo.

I think a lot of it depends on if Montero stays C eligible for long.

edit: it probably makes him even less reliable but it certainl helps his Ws. It also hurts Montero's upside so i think it makes the trade closer than i first thought.

Yea. The real life trade made things interesting. The hitter went to a crappy lineup and park. And pitcher went to a rough division and park.

Our Minor League Draft starts Friday Feb 3, at 12:00AM in the Proboards 2012 Prospect Draft forum. The owner with the 1st overall pick may begin posting immediately, although the official clock does not start until 2/03/12 at 12:00am. NOTE: ALL TIMES ARE EST. Should he make a pick before the official start of the draft, the owner with the second pick is free to make his pick, but is not officially on the clock until 2/03/12 at 12:00 a.m. and so on.

I will open a new thread for each round of the draft. The draft order will be listed for you to select prospects.

Before making a pick please check previous picks to avoid selecting a prospect that's already taken. Also, make sure that the player you select has less than 130 AB's or less than 50 IP's (players with 130+AB/50+ IP are eligible for the auction). Note that only players who have signed a contract with an MLB club are eligible for the draft. Specifically, players in other leagues, such as Japan or Cuba, and high school and college players may not be drafted.

When making a pick, please list the player's first and last name, position and organization to avoid confusion( there are players that have the same or similar names). Example: Joe Blow 2B-ChC

You have 24hrs to make your selection (you do not have to take the full 24hrs to select). After 24hrs has elapsed and you have not made a selection, the next owner in line may select. The skipped owner may make his selection anytime afterward. If the skipped owner's next pick comes up and he still has not made up his previous selection, he will automatically be skipped. Again, he can make up his picks any time afterward.

If you make an illegal pick (taken prospect or ineligible player), the selection will be voided and the next owner in line can make his pick prior to your 24hrs expiring. You can make your legal pick at any time afterward.

Once made, your selection is final.

To move things along, as a courtesy, I ask that you PM the next owner in the draft order to let him know he is on the clock (OTC), after you make your selection. It is still everyone's responsibility to check the progress of the draft at least 1-2 times a day if not more.

Seems fair for both sides to me. Montero is the best prospect in the trade, but you have a solid catcher prospect already and you get much more from other merchandise thrown in the trade.

For the avoidance of any doubt, Yu Darvish is draft eligible. Yoennis Cespedes had not signed for an MLB team as of 00:00 this morning, and is thus not eligible. If you want to sign any other international player, it would be helpful if you have a news report of him signing timestamped before the draft started.

xxSooted is about to go with a the bold manuver of waiting all offseason with the #1 pick and then going with the "Ole" and trading down. This is a decision that fan bases often frown at, but lets all other owners know, "I'm not scared"!

Plus it builds anticipation.
