There are some changes from the yesterday's event. They are depicted in
bold red.
Countdown
Here is a randomised list of entrants:
Capt Hindsight vs bopolis
Slow_Ben vs jepg
Each pair will compete to face the winner of the pair that is next to them.
Each encounter will feature 5 rounds, in this order.
1 LETTERS ROUND
1 NUMBERS ROUND
1 LETTERS ROUND
1 NUMBERS ROUND
1 CONUNDRUM ROUND
Here are the rules:
Letters round
- One contestant, chosen at random among those who have not chosen before, the number of consonants and vowels to be present in a word.
- At least 4 consonants and at least 3 vowels must be chosen.
- After the word has been chosen, all contestants will have 2 minutes to submit (via PM) the longest word they can form with these letters.
- No proper nouns, no hyphenated words, no words that only occur in a combination of two or more. Plurals of mass nouns that have no logical plural aren't allowed, either (ex. mankinds).
The player that has submitted the longest word among the pair will gain
a point for each letter.
9-letter words score double. Both score in event of a tie.
Numbers round
- One contestant, chosen at random among those who have not chosen before, will pick 6 numbers, choosing between small (1 through 10) or big (25, 50, 75 and 100).
- One contestant, chosen at random among those who have not chosen before, will choose how many big numbers (0 to 4) will be present
- After the numbers have been chosen, they will be exposed to the event thread, and a random 3-digit number will be selected.
- All contestants will have 2 minutes to reach the 3-digit number using the four standard operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division). Again, the solution will be submitted via PM. Each number may only be used the number of times it is available. It is not necessary to use all the numbers.
Points are awarded for the closest solution, and again both contestants score if the solutions are equally close.
- 10 points are given for an exact answer.
- 7 points for a non-exact solution up to 5 from the target
- 5 points for a solution between 6 and 10 from the target.
- If neither contestant can get within 10, no points are awarded.
Conundrum round
A
9-letter word will be presented in
scrambled form.
The
first player among the pair that finds the unscrambled 9-letter word and submits it via PM will receive
10 points. As usual, you submit via PM.
You may only guess once, and there will still be a
2 minutes limit.
