TGTBATU technically wasn't "filmed" in any specific language. All the actors are speaking in their native language and then the sound was dubbed in after filming. The language says Italian because it was originally released in Italy. It is the same case for pretty much all Spaghetti Westerns. If it was released in USA first, the language would say English.

I'm not taking a specific release, tchaz - I'm taking the movie, and you can watch whatever version you want. Not sure why you're being such a nit about this.

I think Nich can be skipped at this point. I know this is the 1st round but it's been almost 24 hours now and we can't wait forever. Just move him down the list imo and he can pick when he gets here.

idk who's up after Nich on the list (on account of I'm lazy)

if it gets to me I'll be offline for about 4 hours, back about 11:00 server time.

Yes, this is well known.

No - it's because it was originally released in Italian.

I really don't care at all - just domering away whilst we wait for Nich .. but i'm not the one being a nit with the IMDB ... & sorry if you found it grating.

There are so many grey areas/exceptions/oddities that we just have to take IMDb to be the gospel for the purposes of this draft.
The bolded bit wasn't clear - I assumed you referred to it as a handy source of usually reliable information about ~all films.

Again, I don't actually care.

[edit] I'm in and out for a bit, Xander has my pick - if there's someone stateside who is around I can send it to them as well.

Right . But a film could be released first in language A in a territory whose native language is B. The IMDB language of the film is then A despite it being first released in a country speaking language B.

Interestingly this seems to be becoming more common. See, eg, https://www.quora.com/When-did-Holly...e-domestically and in particular Nicole Allan's answer

So, The Wizard of Oz should be counted as B&W since it starts and ends as a B&W movie.

Plus, the IMDB page doesn't list it as color or B&W.

IMDB page lists it as

Quote:
Color: Black and White (Kansas sequences) (1949 re-release)| Black and White (Kansas sequences) (1955 re-release)| Black and White (Sepiatone)| Color (Technicolor)
So that counts as B&W by the language rule and/or Diab's film-not-release rule

When I look at IMDB, I get this:

Not trying to angleshoot, but I don't see where it says it either way. Is there somewhere else on IMDB that I need to look?

Every movie has a page on IMDb and you can find all the info on there. The top image shows most of the info and the colour/language can be found by scrolling down the page a little further.

Scroll down / search for "Technical specs"

(The "language" stiuff is just above that in the "Details" section.)

Thanks. I was looking at the one in the OP and was expecting it there. Reading is hard.

Taking what I feel is the best movie ever made

Apocalypse Now

Just one amazing scene after another. Has the rare quality of being terrifying, haunting, yet beautiful at the same time. Also the music is just perfectly done. The sort of movie that can only be made by a genius director allowed to do what he wants, while on the brink of insanity

There are a lot of films fitting almost all the categories apart from "A movie with an IMDb rating of above 8.4". There seems to be only 50 of these (but maybe this is another loltchaz & a part of IMDB I haven't figured out yet). Obviously there are a lot of great films on the list including everything selected so far apart from Singing in the Rain, but there are surprisingly few of which I'm really fond. So it behoves me to grab one of those now.

Fitting, afaics, categories 2,11,26 and 27

Spoiler:

Cidade de Deus

Singing In The Rain is probably my favorite musical. At least podium.

Such a feel good romp.

For the top 250:

Quote:
To be included on the list, a movie must receive ratings from at least 25000 users
We have no such restriction on our draft

Agreed

My other favourite musical is not considered a musical by IMDb and after these top 2 there is a steep decline in quality imo. I suppose [REDACTED] is pretty great but not something I really want to draft.
