None of which were really that interesting. and even what I read about the 3v3 things they do now...it doesn't really seem all that great either. Great game - but very hard to come up with a good scoring method. (and i already talked about how i don't like the idea of using team events, you can like them if you want, but i don't, so agree to disagree.).
Nah 3v3 arena is really really popular, and surprisingly deep.

Yeah 3v3 arena tournaments have huge prizes and are broadcast more than SC/WC3 tournaments are (at least in the US).

I can only speak for my experiences in Inhouse Leagues on DotA, but the best players definitely emerge over time in randomized 5v5 teams (although certain types of players are rewarded more than others).

Realms of Arcadia 1+2 - 5.99$ as a download on gog.com
Realms of Arcadia 3 - 5.99$ as a download on gog.com

There's also the newer games with shiny 3d. The Dark Eye: Drakensang and The Dark Eye: Drakensang River of Time that retail for about 10 Euro; 30 Euro here

no doubt. But as i mentioned before, I think team based competitions are at a natural disadvantage compared to individual competitions in this draft. With the purpose of finding the best individual gamer, if you have a team based competition, its not as smooth.

Yea, of course it can be done. You have lots of matches with random teammates or something. But there's always that little asterisk of doubt as to how much a victory is a result of an individual vs of his team.

And I realize that being a good teammate is part of being a good overall gamer, so doing well in team events is part of that and could be an integral part of the overall competition.

Team contests just make it a little bit more complicated is all I was trying to say.

Also if anyone at the end of round 1 wants to trade I'd be willing to trade my 2nd and 3rd round picks for your 1st and 5th.

Round 1 Pick 13:

Brogfest selects:

Spoiler:

Tetris

One of the simplest, yet most addictive games of all time. The popularity of this game is ridiculous. I believe a large reason for its popularity is that it is immediately obvious what the goal is after 5 seconds of watching.

It has been ported to just about every conceivable platform. If it has a screen, chances are you can play Tetris on it.

I don't know if aliens exist, but if they do, they play Tetris.

This pick is dedicated to all those who know the feeling of seeing falling shapes when they close their eyes.

Each event in my series ("Brogfest") will be separated by one week so players will be given a chance to practice. Then they will be ranked from first to last in that week's competition (like 20 points for first place, 19 points for second, 18 points for third, et cetera). Aggregate scores will be kept to determine overall placing in the contest.

For Tetris, each player will be given three official plays. Highest score out of the three is kept. Player with the highest score wins.

I love Tetris, but I doubt I'd watch someone playing it

That is so funny.

Maruchan seriously suggested to me that we should draft tetris.

I thought he was out of his mind.

I'm sure that is true. But there's a huge pool of non-hardcore-gamers and non-gamers who will be much more willing and able to follow somebody playing Tetris than the other games picked so far.

Hell, I own and have played StarCraft, and I can barely follow what's going on in competitions.

tetris was on the list but I didn't think it'd fall this soon

lol, Tetris is the other game I was deciding on with Civ 4. I didn't think I'd get both, but I figured doing it this way is the only chance I had

January Jones

You are more likely to dislike my rulings...if you get my drift.

and i think this rounds out our short list. halo 3, quake 3 arena, world of warcraft, tetris. oh well, it was probably way to much to hope any of them would last so we could get 2...

Tetris may not be an exciting spectator sport, but it is the quintessential puzzle game, and an awesome component of a gaming competition.

Bwuahahaha, I'm getting excellent value on my round 1 pick.
Props to OTI for telling me about this game while we were co-modding.

ROUND 1, PICK 14....
I take,
Spoiler:

Madden NFL 10

Do I even have to mention anything about this game? The Madden series are perhaps the greatest sports video games in the history of video games. Madden NFL destroys all other competition with its stunning visual details and excellent game play.

Madden NFL is the most popular sports video game in the U.S. for a reason: it kicks ass.

This game is available on almost all consoles, including: PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, Wii, Xbox 360, iPhone OS.

A single elimination tournament in the style of the Madden Bowl will be held. Players will be free to choose whichever team they like and will compete until a single victor remains.

No way, getting a game that crushes a category [sports] as the 14th pick is huge value, I think it's pretty exciting.

Considering the combination of strategy, hand eye coordination, and reaction speed that Madden brings to the table it probably should have been a top 3 pick.

Not the game itself, even tho video game football is somehow worse than NFL football. It's just such a cliche first round pick. It's what the computer would pick in an autodraft.

I mean, it's good value, but meh

Considering how I have picked in all drafts now are you surprised I would suggest that one?

You could say the same about starcraft...there's a reason it's a standard pick
