According to wikipedia: "The 93,000-acre (380 km2) Irvine Ranch remains the core holding of The Irvine Company. Of the total ranch area, 44,000 acres (180 km2) is retained for development whilst the remainder are preserved as wilderness and recreational preserves collectively known as the Irvine Ranch Natural Landmarks."

180 square kilometers is about 70 square miles.

Irvine is a ****ing misery and if you are remotely familiar with Southern California you know that.

Also LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL LLLLL at 15 minutes. Have fun driving to the beach at 3:12 a.m., approximately the only time during which traffic is not hyperebolaids. Also, have fun with your weekend beaching at some of the world's most overcrowded, least interesting, least-available-parking beaches. You literally just took the second-worst part of Southern California.

However big Irvine is now DOESN'T REALLY MATTER, people.

As for SpaceX, good luck dealing with the fallout* when a piece of space debris takes out Wayne Rooney as he's lining up a PK.

This is a nice perk, and another reason I thought grabbing San Diego was a good idea.

I owe a couple picks, 1st write-up about to start.

I'm the thread's biggest Elon Musk fanboy but to me the SpaceX pick sucks, because you're basically just getting office buildings. And as awesome as the company is, it's not particularly successful yet.

filthy secretly got the best Elon Musk pick, and he probably doesn't even know it.

He took Cape Canaveral, where SpaceX will launch from for the next few decades. that was a pick we were hoping to grab late in the draft.

and actually, the city he picked isn't a bad place for a spaceport. The Mission to Mars will be lifting off from Cabo San Lucas lol.

the Irvine Ranch extends northward beyond Irvine to vacant, unincorporated land, which is adjacent to Irvine and where Disney will abut the city without (1) encroaching on the population center or citizens lives, (2) displacing any residents, or (3) being built on land belonging to any other city. the downtown will be focused around Jamboree, as shown on the map.

Because 66sqmi is indeed a lateral limiting factor, the city will be built upwards, with huge skyscrapers surrounding Times Square, and westward facing residents being able to see Pacific ocean sunsets from their apartments. It's really going to be quite something, and we're looking forward to it.
Will be expensive to move it there from your city

I lived in Coto de Caza and worked in Newport Beach a few years ago, so I drove through Irvine every day. There is nothing wrong with the city, in fact there are tons of things to love. The beaches are perfectly accessible even in the busiest times (again, there are 40 MILES OF BEACHES within 30 minutes of Irvine).

You don't seem to have much clue what you're talking about, but are making REALLY LOUD NOISES FOR SOME REASON I DON'T KNOW WHY

Because Irvine is ****ing abominable. You drafted the prevailing vibe of Irvine. The prevailing vibe of Irvine is that when people not from Irvine are informed that they must visit Irvine, they throw **** around their apartments in better parts of the world - nearly everywhere - before stocking up on Kindle Premium titles and drugs and march with the grin of death upon their faces to one of the most boring times of their lives. Irvine. ****ing. Sucks.

Sounds like someone needs to spend a day at Disney World to help them cheer up. We'll hook you up with a free fastpass, hoya.

Yes, but they don't have the existing Irvine. Now it will have Times Square instead, so I'm sure it will be okay. Plus they will have Disney World right down the road from Disney Land. They could probably use the entire freeway to have Disney parades on select holidays.

Also, for what it's worth, Disney World is a massively awful pick anyway; no one, literally no one, has ever desired to live adjacent to ****ing Disney World. That sounds so awful.

Here, look, cartoon mice and tourists for dayssssssssssss, just outside your front door! Enjoy!

Worse Irvine is not a good move.

Conceptually, I do not understand what "having Times Square" really means. If it isn't in [UNDRAFTED] and is instead in Worse Irvine, why would anyone want to go there? Which buildings do you get? Do you get the Duane Reade?

I'm just saying, man, these dudes are up in here drafting Irvine.

It's like going to the exotic car dealership with unlimited funds and spending it all on a 1977 Datsun with three wheels, no transmission and rusted panels.
