So if we assume game was a UFC clue (they have a video game and it's a sport/game) then we're missing a clued word and he likely would've tried to clue 3 or went unlimited I assume to try and let us know to keep guess since game took the 5th UFC word. I guess we just assume we have 2 make up words for UFC.

there's probably other poles you hold in your arm besides spears/javelins but with "arm" being a synonym for weapon, it makes a lot of sense to go for the double connection

i do think pole fits carpenter but he may have been worried that if he said carpenter 3 we'd go elsewhere

he also may have felt it didn't make a differene, he may have been planning to use javelin for game anyway since javelins are used in olympic games. so he may have thought "if they guess pole, fine, but otherwise, i can get arm/pole/game next round anyway"
