Box Office Draft 2019 Box Office Draft 2019

I understand that the spreadsheet for this draft hasn't been updated recently, but I'm still having trouble understanding the roster tab.

What is the dollar amount at the bottom of the page? For instance, Nich's total at the bottom currently shows at approximately $65M, but Avengers alone reached the $325M cap limit. And then below that, Nich has a cell with 7% listed. What is that? And what does the number 970 below that represent?

I'm not sure, but I think the very bottom number is what domer's predictions are for each person's end total. I would've thought the top number was actual totals and the middle number was the % difference. But looking at those numbers, that doesn't make any sense. So, I guess to answer your question, I don't know what they mean either.

My top 6 movies have all been released now, and I'm sitting at ~$850m. Looking at what's left of other people's drafts, I think that might be pretty tough to beat. Derwi has a decent shot to win. I think everybody else would need some serious breakout hits to have any chance.

Pretty sure my #notlast goal is in question

FWIW: Top row (on the bottom area) looks like actual box office, 3rd row is projected box office, and 2nd type is projected chance to win based on projected box office.

Yep, and the top row is screwed up due to the first tab not being alphabetized. I fixed it.

Everything should be mostly current now

Thanks for explaining and updating everything.

I'm sure all of the film totals will be scrubbed when we get closer to the end, but right now it's showing Lion King and Spiderman already at $325M even though neither of them has hit that total (yet). I'm sure both of them will hit it fairly quickly, so no big deal.

Aladdin did hit $325M but it's still showing up at $240M on the spreadsheet, which is only a big deal because it's my first round pick!

Ramin Setoodeh @RaminSetoodeh

This has never happened. The five biggest movies of the year at the U.S. box office are all from one studio -- Disney.

(1) #AvengersEndgame $856.4 million
(2) #CaptainMarvel $426.8 million
(3) #ToyStory4 $395.6 million
(4) #TheLionKing $350.8 million
(5) #Aladdin $345.9 million

and nothing original, weeeeeeee!!!

Yes the first spreadsheet needs to be alphabetized in order for the totals to show up properly on the second sheet. But it is easiest to input totals when you have sorted by release date, so just sort it by what you want to do at the time.

There is a way to make it so that the first sheet doesn't have to be alphabetized if any excel wizards want to take the task upon them

Looks like Diabolical has a strong lead right now, but Thingyman has a few potential dramatic hits coming out this fall.

Overall a super top heavy year with Disney dominating and lots of other studios limping along

If the sheet is open for anyone to edit I'll do it tonight. It's super easy.

Aaron currently in last...but looks like he is going to surge. Frozen 2 obv cap, and starting to look like Joker might cap with the reviews it has been getting. Will be up to Terminator to see if he can catch Diab. Though derwi is going to be up there as well if Jumanji 2 does what 1 did

Yeah, Joker has the potential to crush for sure. Capping might be a bit ambitious, but it's definitely a possibility.

I do find it slightly amusing that the 2 people responsible for Hangover 2 and 3 are now responsible for Chernoblyl (probably the best show of the year) and Joker (which looks like it could be one of the best movies of the year).

And earlier this year, Peter Farrelly won 2 Oscars. Crazy world we live in!

Even if Joker caps I think aaronk still needs close to 150m from Terminator to contend for the win which seems unlikely to me. I'll probably need around 250m from Jumanji to be in the race, not sure that's likely considering it's opening only a week before Star Wars does.

Joker with a 93.5 mil opening weekend

Seems to be a two horse race between Derwi and Diab.

We went likely 7/8 for on first round picks to caps assuming Joker caps which is likely as it sits at 300 and made 13 last weekend.

We still have an outside chance, even though Terminator bombed. Doctor Sleep should easily hit the $60 million last round sub cap, Frozen should cap and should get $70 million or so more from Joker and Terminator, which gets us over $1 Billion.

Need some of Diab and Derwi's picks to underperform though.

That reminds me that I need to replace Superintelligence. Pretty slim pickings...I'll just take Dark Waters.
