The Great Wall releases Dec 16 in some places. Is that legal?

yeah, we only care about when people can pay to see it in the US

Yea but doesn't that give an unfair advantage if one can just look up reviews or bootleg the actual movie ahead of time? Not that I'm accusing Filthy of it, or even care, for that matter - was just wondering

Isn't it a level playing field where everyone can look up this stuff?

I mean you all have your ways to research and predict and this is just another thing to take into account

I agree. Was going to choose great Wall but thought it was dqed. Though for what it's worth, I think that will bomb as well so I was destined to pick a bomb this round.

Yea I guess that's a fair point, although you get into what Master was saying where people might pass over it because they thinking it was ineligible. I certainly took it off my list because of that, but tbf I wasn't really considering it last round

It was near the top of my possibilities list, but I didn't want to ask about a redacted film I might not take and give the idea to someone else.

We were vague in rules, just using language like "not released"

I guess since we are only talking about us released movies and us box office it makes sense to extend that to us release date

Fwiw, I read info about the Chinese release, where the movie should have conceivably done well, and they said results were fair to poor. Couple that with being released at a time when **** movies go to die, and I am not expecting huge money out of it.

Release dates definitely become a problem for repicks. I don't think you should be able to take movies that have been released elsewhere/played in festivals. Having a critical opinion on a movie is a big advantage and you're using information that wasn't available to everybody at the time of the draft. Wasn't that the whole reason that the 2 week rule was implemented?

Bink

The Hitman's Bodyguard

Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L Jackson, Gary Oldman
Action Comedy with a nice Aug release date, relatively uncontended by a month on both sides.

Shocked this fell to me unless there's something I don't know about

None of those actors are exactly huge box office draws. Combine that with an unknown director/writer and it's easy to see why it fell this far. Not saying it will necessarily bomb, but there's not much reason to think it will do that well either.

Kinda beg to differ wrt Sam Jackson. Reynolds also riding off a huge year but I see your point

Jackson has huge box office returns but that's because he stars in about 50 movies a year and he is involved with some huge franchises. Barely anybody goes to see movies just because he's in them. And when Reynolds isn't Deadpool, his movies tend to flop.

I wasn't wild about the late director change to the dude who made the worst expendables movie (a movie which bombed pretty considerably compared to the other two)
