Jabonator with Real Love by Tom Odell (link)

Spoiler:

that goddamn John Lewis advert was played like a million times over christmas and I am beyond sick of this song. It's not even a particularly good cover. The first one with Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want was at least unexpected and vaguely original at that point, by now they're running the christmas glurge machine into the ground with goddamn cutesy anodyne acoustic covers of songs that are always much better in their original form

**** you john lewis

**** you

This time I was being sold ****ty lager instead of overpriced home goods. The song is, I guess, OK? I mean, it's totally inoffensive but hardly gets the pulse racing.

This brings to the end the brief run of 'songs I already knew and didn't particularly like'. This isn't dreadful, just a bit dull.

I think they'd heard of the idea that a song could change a bit, but they didn't approve of it. I mean, there's nothing that wrong with it, but this really does nothing for me.

I genuinely like a bit of ska-punk every now and again, but jfc this is not a good example. My entire time listening to this song was spent thinking 'man, I really wish these guys were Reel Big Fish'. I think the (even for ska-punk) total lack of any kind of singing ability and (even for ska-punk) irritating lyrics just did enough to spoil what was a reasonably catchy melody underneath it all.
