Death Number

I wanted to discuss another interesting thing about how certain spell are going to work.

If you are a spellcaster, you may find you have a spell whose description says:

"If your target hits his Death Number in his next post, he will die/be roleblocked/will have to wear a hideous hat/(insert)".

So, what's a Death Number?

Every player in this game has a Death Number (DN from now on). It will not be disclosed to you.

When a player is targeted by a spell whose effect relies on a DN (such as the one above) the next post of the target will determine what happens next.
If the target's DN is a divisor of master post number* of the relevant post, the spell with take effect. Otherwise, the spell will fail.
For example, if a player with a DN of 3 is targeted by a spell that relies on a DN, and the target's next master post number is 273456, the spell takes effect.

As the name might imply, being hit by a spell that has "Death Number" in it is not a good idea. So the higher your DN is, the better. Anyone's DN is cannot be lower than 2 or higher than 10.

* To discover the DN of that certain post, hover over the #number of that post with your number. The master post number of this post, for example, is 46603683.

My death number is 16429, so don't bother.

Is the death number mechanic last number >= death number? I don't quite get it.

Also, is 0 = always hit or only hits on 0 (which would make 1 = always hit)

fnord, suppose you targeted a dude with a DN spell, and his next post has a master post of 46603683.

If your target's DN is 3, 7 or 9, you got him. Otherwise, you didn't.

Also, a player's DN cannot be lower than 2.

not a big fan of these games that require thinking hard about things and like strategy and whatnot
04-09-2015 , 09:19 AM
I see no strategy here, though.

3 - last number got it
7,9 - completely lost on why those hit in this example. First and secon digit plus last?

It's not the last digit. It's the whole number.
7 and 9 also hit because they're divisors of 46603683.

46603683 / 9 = 5178187 (whole number)
46603683 / 8 = 5825460,375 (not whole number)
46603683 / 7 = 6657669 (Whole number)
46603683 / 6 = 7767280,5 (not whole number)
46603683 / 5 = 9320736,6 (not whole number)
46603683 / 4 = 11650920,75 (not whole number)
46603683 / 3 = 15534561 (Whole number)
46603683 / 2 = 23301841,5 (not whole number

Oh, got it. Just looked back and you did say divisor in the first post, I completely missed that (I probably just assumed you were using the last number only subconciously)
04-09-2015 , 10:11 AM
Poor feller, always was a wee short of the whole number.

Also, no one needs to worry about needing to do cumbersome calculations.
Leave it to Elminster Aumar imo, I think he will manage.

Pro tip, you can post on any number that is relatively prime to 2,3,5, and 7 with impunity. No need for an absolute prime.
