Rather than necessarily analyze the type of reads VMF made, the mere fact that he did just enough to get people off his wagon before peacing out really does tell you all you need to know. And yes he has a history of this. He does it rather brazenly and then just hopes people shrug at it.

In my experience with playing with Vix, he just ****s around a lot and makes people laugh. I could be wrong, but I am assuming that he was doing that when he first joined in.

Also I've asked around and there isn't really anyone who has a strong village read on him, if there is they seem to be keeping it a secret, which makes it even more likely he's not a villager given all this other stuff.
