mafiascum has officially declined the invitation to participate.

A different community will be invited. I have one or two in mind, but if you feel that I've missed an active community that would definitely want to participate, please let me know.

I still think it's fair for mafiascum to have an Ad litem player - someone who plays a lot at MS who might not be sanctioned as an official representative - I know of a few, but they also play at other sites with me.

Also, don't know if they'd be up to sending a rep, but RationalSkepticism.org is championship worthy, imo.

If you want to make it personal, I'd look at divagreen (mollie @ MS), who could worthily rep from MS, TalkRational.org, or Ratskep - also her sidekick Nachomamma8. There's Carlsson (Sven I think @ MS), or Ironclad @ Ratskep. Jerome or Blip or Mantisdreamz or praying or borealis or felltoearth @ MR/TR/Ratskep. Others might be too busy, but I'm sure I could think of more. Jerome and diva are especially awesome good at times, though they mostly hate each other.

as a brand consultant i am saying firmly that no, it's not, both morally and PR-wise

I thought the idea was for the best players in the universe, not necessarily the best sites. MS is pretty awful, imo, and many of their top players would agree it has 'issues'.

I don't reckon their players should be penalised simply because their admins are being snooty.

To be clear, I have only been in contact with the mods about their participation, not the community itself. They told me that they were pretty apathetic about the whole thing to begin with (no further elaboration on this part) and that me including them in the promo video without them having agreed to participate made it a hard no. I had sent the video pre-release to them for approval and told them that I could upload a video without their name in it, but in any case I did post the one with their name in it before they finally responded today (they are slow). That was bad judgment on my part; I naively figured that worst case it was free promotion for them (I featured them prominently, thinking it would make them happy, lol), but they interpreted it as the championship series getting something out of using their name. Oh well, I feel better knowing that from their tone and their explanation that they were super unlikely to have said yes anyway.

I am tempted, I must admit, just because I know that a lot of their top players would want to play and I haven't heard anything but positive feedback from those amongst their community I've talked to about this. 'tis a shame.
