it wasn't really meant to be anything big
if it was then i probably would've posted something a bit more than "like idk" lol
i was just looking for anything that might help me read dorian better
as for the bios, i think by default people would describe how they play as town since when they're scum they're often trying to replicate their town play, so i don't agree that the bios are completely meaningless but yeah that's definitely not my primary issue with dorian

Re: The 2015 Mafia Championship: Game 6
I suppose I'll actually explain my two mafia reads quickly for fear that time constraints will catch up to me here shortly:
MSU
He has so few posts that I'll quote them here for the sake of ISO'ing him quickly.

Here are all my feelings right now....
Banks talks a lot. Talking alot for the sake of talking can be good in getting stuff out or it can be scum trying to much up the boards with nonsense. Nothing definitive yet as a read but it stood out to me.
Slendy's "Once I've seen more posts from you" post bothers me and intrigues me. It's a very "shoot first, ask questions later" mentality. I dunno - could be good strategy but it is not something I would do. Maybe it's because I am more cautious of my vote within the first 2 hours that the game is open and I want to get a sense of how people are posting? But the answer to "Why are you voting for me?" is awesome if it works.
still digesting others but those are the two that immediately stood out for comment.
|
I have no prior meta/history with any of you so this is largely based on prior experience and not based on any past data on MSU. Regardless, his entry here screams of being "present" - not that this is necessarily alignment indicative (a villager too would desire this) - they're super level 0 based reads that have no real bearing on the game and are really just "fluff" under the guise of content/appearing to be following the game in some meaningful manner.

Of all the people here, you started talking to yourself, complaining that this was turtle paced, then I believe you asked a question and answered it. It was cute, but something that jumped out at me.
Not calling you one way or the other but that and Slendy's post are the two immediate things that stood out for the first few hours this game has been open.
I just refreshed and realized I missed a ton and now I am going back to read what y'all wrote.

Doc is reading slight town for me because I get what he posted and why he posted the "13 members saying I'm town". Much like Riki said, I;m not convinced it makes him mafia.
Riki - I agreed with his assessment on Doc and not getting any scum vibe from him at this point.

Whilst a lot of my "case" is tone/experience based (meaning there is very little circumstantial/objective evidence (cause lol at having that after 3 posts), MSU's re-entry a number of hours later is based on reads that arent really going to ruffle many feathers (i.e. someone who puts in just enough work to kind of stay under the radar/doesnt butt too may heads with people, which in turn, would raise awareness about his own contributions to the thread).
He's kind of an easy guy to pick on early cause he hasnt really been able to contribute much but statistically speaking wolves are, by nature, more reserved (barring a few spammy ass wolves) so he's probably a good person to prod tonight while I am slaving away at work.
____
I actually think my case on fontisian is more objective in nature (based on the first two pages) - its become apparent I wont be able to catch up fully because I am a slow ass reader but I'll post my feels on him quickly as well.

one thing i noticed was that his second reads list included a read of me that was based on a post i made like 5 minutes before which gave me the impression that he was following the thread pretty closely but not commenting much which isn't great

First off I'll highlight the parts that I wont be commenting on for now (mostly to see what others think first (then I'll chime in from work if I get a break).

I've actually encountered the opposite in my experience. Scum tend to feel awkward, like they'd be overacting if they made a post proclaiming relief at rolling town. Honest town, on the other hand, do it all the time. I also really doubt that it's a major tell in this context.
:/
At least you're consistent. When you're done with this, can we talk about the reasons for waiting?
I didn't see it. I may or may not being skimming your posts. You're probably going down the wrong path with the Bomb dude, though. Dorian already told you why.

Slendy, is there a reason for that?

"Interesting" tends to come off as a scumread. Why not explain everything instead of making a vague and non-committal comment?
OK.
|
This is probably the least genuine push I have ever seen on someone in all of mafia, just saying.

Hmm. I think I like the way you're willing to reassess your opinion on the first part enough to back off for now.
This.
DosEspana
Did you see Acromatic's accusation before posting this?
|
The justification/sponge he used to move from slendy to dos is pretty bad. Pretty easy to sponge a town's case against another town (assuming they're both town). Slendy already called him out for this earlier (i'd probably go back and quote slendy's post but I have to leave now - it was an excellent observation fwiw).

The bold posts all have something in common (IMO). Will revisit here soon. The posts I quoted are off pages 1-2, its possible his posting has since gotten better but I'll address that when I get caught up fully.

Haven't gotten to Bhuber yet. I started from the beginning because I was so damn tired in the morning. I hate my early scum read on smartbomb reading it all at once I think. If he is on Fonti to thats fine shes a bit weird, I'm not sure how correlated her forum vs video mafia games are.

I've almost developed a wolf hunting strategy around my frequent night shifts.
But it requires a lot of posts. A lot. And I think that's why I got selected to represent them. Hopefully *someone* doesn't lynch me because I am grumpy that you guys do things slightly differently than I'm used to. Because my worth come in later today and from then on. A lot of posts can do. I do want to hear about this wolf hunting process.

Can you talk to me about what you mean by "intense"?
Digging the progression going on between riki/achromatic. Riki could definitely have been coaching a town or a wolf bro there if he is a wolf and I like that achromatic pointed it out.

I perform a siege against mafia. In a battle they must post a bunch of content the more they have to post the more likely they are to screw up. I also get reads through interaction mostly and hard rereads of tone.
That and I really want a gold star.

Loads of times on video mafia with my favorite being where I made everyone but 2 people mafia in the same chat and the mafia weren't allowed to vote on the town and the win condition for mafia was to make the two town vote on each other. The mafia had to kill each other at night. Was more for my amusement, I don't even remember who won.

Re: The 2015 Mafia Championship: Game 6
I saw my avatar and thought I caught up. Not quite lol.
I want to expand about fonti. I feel like fonti is playing kinda like she does as villager on video mafia but definitely different from her day 1 on forums which is the only forum experience we have together minus a turbo. I think she is probably more town but I'm unsure how she plays forum as anything outside day 1. If I didn't know fonti's video play I think I'd call her a wolf. The hesitation is real. I think I'm getting nervous.

|
Ah. I believe I literally gave slendy "a point in his favor," which is a pretty weak townread from me, and it was for replicating his town play, and thus your point 2. Point 1 is a generality to use when unfamiliar with someone. Experience with a person's playstyle (which I've already said that I know one game isn't much, but all I have to work with), trumps generalities like that.
For example, we have a couple of players on our site that say and do the dumbest, scummiest stuff all the time. They used to get lynched for it all the time. They were inevitably not mafia. So now when they do that stuff that most of us think is scummy, most of us know that it's a sign that they're more likely innocent, because their playstyle trumps the generality.
It's why a game like this is so tough: most of us have little to no experience with each others' playstyles.
I notice you avoided my question about whether you think that we're all so good that our scum play should be indistinguishable from our town play. Even if that's not the conclusion you were trying to get me to admit, the question still stands.

No, I said the gut response would be to view that person as town. The logical thing, which I said I would be doing, is waiting to see how the votes play out so I could try to make a more informed, less gut-based decision.
Watching the cue/fontisian interaction has been helpful in that regard. Cue's joking style is tough for me to parse, but it's very obvious that behind it is someone who very much knows what they're doing. fontisian's initial reason for the vote seems fairly thin to me, as some people will make jokes no matter their affiliation. Cue's response, while a lot less jokey, was to suddenly start asking a whole lot of questions to a whole bunch of people, many of which didn't seem that didn't seem that difficult to answer. As if she(?) was trying to suddenly look active. I don't think they're both scum, but if one is, I'm still trying to work out which I think it is.
I like bhuber's entrance, just as an initial impression.

Sarcasm, aside, I do think it was your intent, or at least part of it. But everyone has an incentive to look active when someone else starts grilling them, so I'm trying to decide if it says much about you. Was it your intent? Did you have any other goals with the questions?
