OD, I hope you feel better.
I have a quick story of inspiration that I want to mention
I'm still doing physical therapy for my broken left hand (football) as I just got the pins removed over a week ago. It's going slow and steady as I regain better flexibility and motion in my left hand with each passing day. Sure there are medical bills to pay and multiple doctor/therapist appointments to schedule around my work schedule every week, but my recovery progress is going well and I should regain full function and mobility in my left hand within the end of the month, if all goes smoothyl
What really puts things into perspective though, is seeing the new 25 year old guy who started going to physical therapy in the same time slot as me a few days ago. His entire left hand is mangled, his elbow is shattered, there are pinched nerves in his shoulder, and he has a severe spinal cord injury which causes massive back pain. This is a 25 year old guy in the prime of his life, who just a few months ago was physically capable in every way until that dreaded jackhammering injury he sustained at a construction site in October
Insurance? Massive settlement? Nope. The guy was doing contracting work, rendering his employer not viable, and to top it off, his health insurance coverage (from his wife's job) was minimal. Most of the expenses from the multiple specialist visits and surgeries that he endured over the past few months, have been primarily out of pocket. The guy will most likely never regain the use of his left hand and he will always have a noticable degree of pain throughout his left arm and upper back
After all of this, does the guy feel deppressed and down on life?
Nope. He is as upbeat and cheerful as ever. He has regained a new perspective and passion in life. He talks of his plans to travel the world, to once again go snowboarding with his friends, to find suitable employment, and to provide his family with a better life. He refuses to let his debilitating injury hold him back from living his life.
Every time I'm upset or angry about a particular part of my day or aspect of my life, I can't help but think of him and his inspirational way of coping with his painful ordeal
