Teenage Poker Players Go 'All In' Online

Hopefully Nightline will get into the legalities of online poker and the pending federal legislation, not just talk about "teenage" players.

Back in July, someone from Nightline started a thread in the zoo looking for online players to maybe do a story on in an upcoming segment of the show. That link is no longer valid, must have been removed?

What I read on the link doesn't sound too bad. Unfortunately, our opposition is going to have a field day with this. Won't somebody think of the children?!?!?!?

"There are elements of chance in poker, absolutely. That's why I have losing days. That's why the greatest players in the world have losing days," he explained.
anyone else feel like this should continue along something like "but poker is overwhelmingly a game of skill. That's why people like Phil Ivey, Phil Hellmuth, Daniel Negreanu, Tom Dwan etc. can make a living playing." but ABC just decided not to print that?

While Brount admits he's not sure if he will play the same card game of chance for decades to come, but for now, he's thinking big -- big winnings, that is.

True enough LirvA. I wanted to post a comment precisely on that point but you have to join first. What I wanted to say (and any of you who have joined may use this freely) was "In an otherwise well researched article it is sad that you ruin it by ending it with reference to poker as a "card game of chance." If poker truly were a game where chance is the more important factor you would have no subjects for this article. Imagine a story about all the young up and coming professional roulette or slot players .... Short article, there are none. Poker is a game where chance is a factor, but clearly skill determines who wins or losses most of the time. If that were not the case, what you describe in this article would be impossible."

I strongly suspect looking at your "EV graph" would actually prove the point quite well.

What name do you play under?

I already have an account on ABC News, so I left the following comment:

Quote:
I'm glad this is at least running on Nightline, since it tends to be slightly less sensational than the evening news. God, how I wish John Stossel was still at ABC and had this assignment.

Also, it would make a huge difference if they'd start referring to 18-19yos by their legal identifier, 'Adult'. 18-19 is a far cry from 13.

Things you can do at 18 (or earlier):
Own and operate a vehicle (with all inherent risk)
Own real property (with all inherent risk)
Run a business (with all inherent risk)
Buy and sell stock (with all inherent risk)
Be tried and convicted as an Adult in a Court of Law (don't they do this at 13 now?)

"...Five-Card Stud, online..." and a clip about a robbery at a LIVE tournament.

This should end well.

I noticed this as well. Maybe they decided to skip it tonight and air the segment about home sales after the new housing data was released today
