One smart thing they have done is allow the authorization for Advanced Deposit Wagering (internet betting on horseracing) to expire, since the horseracing industry is usually the biggest opponent to any expansion of gambling in IL.

ADW reportedly made up 30% of the IL horse industry's revenues in 2012 ($122M), so if/when they decide what they want to do with internet poker, they could have a bone to throw at the racetracks; support the internet poker bill and we'll include a renewal of ADW.

THE MISSISSIPPI LAWFUL INTERNET GAMING ACT 1 OF 2013

Quote:
Pursuant to the federal law entitled "Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006," known as UIGEA and cited as 31 USCS 5301, the State of Mississippi finds that the state regulation of legal gaming in this state, and the provisions of this Mississippi Lawful Internet Gaming Act of 2013, prescribe a lawful exemption to UIGEA and specifically authorize use of the Internet to place, receive, or otherwise knowingly transmit a bet or wager where such Internet wagering complies with the provisions of Title 75, Chapter 76, Mississippi Code of 1972, and the applicable regulations promulgated by the Mississippi Gaming Commission. Further, the State of Mississippi finds that any question regarding the state's authority to regulate lawful Internet gaming that may have resulted from interpretations that such gaming violated certain other federal anti-gambling laws has been vacated by action of the United States Department of Justice on December 23, 2011.

Good news (next decade) for Tennessee?

Quote:
As they negotiate ways to create relationships with Target and Wal-Mart, state lotteries are setting their sights beyond big-box chains, to another important marketplace for future growth, the Web.

In December 2011, a U.S. Department of Justice ruling opened the door for states to allow some forms of online gambling. Since then, several states (not including Tennessee), have introduced legislation allowing forms of Internet gambling, including lotteries.

“Once they’re doing that, the line between instant lottery tickets and what looks like slot machines is a fine line,” said David Schwartz, director of the Center for Gaming Research at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas.

But as a generation of future customers becomes accustomed to making purchases online and on smartphones, the lottery has to adopt, Hargrove said. “If we’re not there in 15 years, we’ll be dinosaurs, and maybe sooner than that.”

There is legislation pending in New Hampshire to finally allow its charity card rooms to deal NL cash games (with a $150 max buy-in). The bills are HB 459 (house bill 459) and SB 61. You can check on the status of the bills through this website: http://www.gencourt.state.nh.us/

Currently NH charity card rooms are limited to limit cash games as the statute was written to limit "bets" to $4. The same statute allows tournaments with buy-ins up to $150 daily and $250 once a week. These new proposals create an exception to the bet limit for "table stakes" games.

There will be a House committee meeting on HB 459 tomorrow and I will be there to speak in favor. Anyone else in the Concord, NH area who can should attend (its in the Legislative Office Building behind the state house, room 202 at 10:00 AM).

The casino bill has also finally been filed, it is HB 665. There is also a bill to give certain places (like the racetracks) slot machines, it is HB 678.

Nothing, yet, for online poker, however.

I sent an email out to all the NH in State Reps and Senators in early January. Probably 30 people in a BCC asking for Internet Poker legislation.

Here is the only response I got on 2/7.

Hi Brian,

I had some state email problems but am online now.

I appreciate your input and am also a fan of Internet poker. I will look into this more.

Thanks,

I have started a new sticky thread with the cliffs for state legislation, and unstickying this watch thread, to make the cliffs more prominently available. I'll keep the cliffs thread updated as new developments are posted in this thread and elsewhere.

Thank you for doing this PX. In reading the boards, many people aren't quite sure what's in each state's legislation and this will be a great thread to point them to.

Hopefully, the dominos start to fall quickly.
