To be honest, until quite recently I didn't think he had a chance to win the nomination. Our primary (Michigan) is tomorrow, and that could give someone a lot of momentum going into super Tuesday.

By the way, I thought Santorum's answer was both wierd and pandering. He basically told the Nevada interviewer that poker is a good thing for Las Vegas and Atlantic City, but he doesn't want it to spread to other states or the internet. What?

Forget poker, Santorum wants to ban porn as well. http://www.ricksantorum.com/enforcin...al-pornography

The fact that this lunatic is even in the running right now says a lot about our country. We are no where near as progressive as we like to pretend we are.

It's disgusting how he preaches small gov't when in fact he is in favor of the government controlling every aspect of our personal lives.

I was stunned to read that Santorum played poker in college.

Love him or hate him, I absolutely respect the fact that Santorum makes it clear exactly what he wants to do as president. That's something no other candidate, aside from Ron Paul, has been brave enough to do. And in many ways I think he would be much better for this country than Romney or Gingritch. Santorum could stand to really open the eyes of those who don't yet see where the US -and political 'conservatism'- is headed.

If anyone wants to see where religious based political conservatism is headed, look at Iran.

He's stated in interviews he's okay with destination casinos in Nevada/New Jersey, but doesn't want internet gaming.

Conversation starts around the 8-minute mark:

Santorum is just trying to rally the far right so he has a chance. Who knows what the guy really believes. He is a politician nothing more. If you believe he is some great stand up guy interested in your rights you are a very naive person.

If Ron Paul was here looking like he stood a real chance of winning the primaries would you now be saying: "Paul is just trying to rally the well educated / under 40 so he has a chance. Who knows what the guy really believes. He is a politician, nothing more." ?

There are countries where animals stone women?

After reading this, the Doobie Brothers song What A Fool Believes popped into my head. Not about myself and my fellow posters, but about Santorum.

I'm not a Paul fanatic, but that's not a fair comparison. Ron Paul, nutjob or not, panders only minimally if at all. He has a record of doing virtually nothing in congress(which, to an extent, I'm OK with.) because he won't play ball, he won't play the politicians game. Santorum really is a fundamental nutjob who happens to be pandering also (for instance, coming out against online poker while in Navada...)

Unfortunately Ron Paul has been running for president my whole life, he's not a serious contender.

Below is the reaction by the Santorum campaign to the Michigan Rs decision to give both "at-large" delegates to Romney:

In a statement, Santorum Communications Director Hogan Gidley said we never thought the Romney campaign would try to rig the outcome of an election by changing the rules after the vote. This kind of back room dealing political thuggery just cannot and should not happen in America."

On the conference call, Santorum strategist John Brabender compared the Michigan GOP to the leaders in Iran, saying, "In this country, you don't change the rules after the voting has taken place."

Or, said another way:

If anyone wants to see idiots compare religious Americans to backass countries full of animals that stone women, look at the quote by Brabender above.

Of course, from a poker standpoint, I'm rooting for Santorum's nomination because it's the best way to ensure the DOJ doesn't change its stance on the wire act for at least another ~5 years.

So all citizens of Iran are animals that stone their women? please enlighten us as to how you have arrived to this conclusion ... actually, don't, because that's just the type of stupid narrow-minded ignorant attitude that gives americans such a bad rep internationally.
Let's stay on topic stick to santorum's stance on poker instead of politarding.

Given that Santorum is unlikely to change his stance and to prevent further politarding, it might be time to lock this thread.

Discussion in ATF:

Santorum Ad? Really? (and other network adverts we hate).

One opinion: Let him spend waste his money here. Do you think he's going to convert anyone?
Presidential candidate Rick Santorum comes out against online poker Quote

i guess, yeah, he'll convert fewer people here than if he bought an ad anywhere else.
i guess it just frustrates me that that idiot is seen as a contender by the general public and ron paul is shooed aside, just because FrothyMix has the money to plaster his name so many places they don't even know where its going.

that's a great thread tho, one of my faves:

Yes.

I'm also assuming women's suffrage won't be repealed between now and November.

Or women don't turn into the Stepford Wives.

I'm so glad I have a woman who tells me what she's thinking instead of me having to do it for her. And I'm being serious.
