For third consecutive year, PPA is cosponsoring the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC). The conference will be Feb. 10th - 12th in Washington, D.C., at the Marriott Wardman Park.

I'll be there, as will John Pappas, Drew, and Greg Raymer. We'll have a booth in the exhibition hall. I hope everyone in the area will drop by and say "hi".

What exactly does "cosponsoring" entail?

We get a booth in the exhibition hall and listed on the list of cosponsors. We'll also have a panel discussion on Saturday morning, which is a step up for us. As always, we'll have a reception with other conservative groups. We'll also ensure that media cover us as a participant.

Any federal bill will be a give and take between lots of competing interests. As we saw in the Reid bill negotiations, we are not the only party with an interest in how such a bill will look. That's why we need to demonstrate support to maximize our negotiating strength.

I posted this here, rather than the PPA forum, as I see this as a broader issue and not as a PPA-only one.

Of course, as a nonpartisan organization, we'll be at Netroots Nation in July as well.

If they did it's probably not as much as the list of (full?) Sponsors

The PPA is listed under Participating Organizations

I don't know what if any money the PPA spent but spending money lobbying politicians, parties, and the power players in DC is what the PPA is suppose to be doing. It's one of the many important ways to further our cause. It's money well spent in the long run, hopefully.

The PPA has to be bipartisan, speaking to and influencing both libs and Cons is the job.

From the earlier two years involvement what gains do you think have been made Engineer? I know this side of politics is your natural home - not mine :-) but I'm sure you can give us a nice summary of progress amongst conservatives in the past 2-3 years.

It should make for an interesting discussion when John Kindt and Greg Raymer cross swords. Quoting Kindt: “Congress must not make a similar mistake by repealing the ban on Internet gambling... Instead, the U.S. and its G-20 partners should be taking the lead to stabilize the world economy by expanding bans to other countries.

He's well known as a rabid anti-online-gambling advocate - one overview is here.

I also believe there was going to be a real-money tournament, which has since become a much less awesome charity-tournament with no cash awards?

So let me get this right. He believes regulated Ipoker would be bad for the economy because it would create market bubbles that would inevitably pop. But, the example he gives to prove his point is when Ipoker stock values popped when Congress passed the UIGEA. I'm pretty sure any industry's stock will pop if Congress passes laws to essentially make your product illegal.

Check out Tony Perkins from FRC trying to pretend all conservatives oppose online poker and that it's a settled matter (because he says so?): http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540...94195#41494195

Quote on internet poker is at about the 1:00 mark for those that dont want to watch the whole video, rest is a rant about CPAC becoming not conservative enough but he doesnt mention online gambling directly again from what I can tell.

Here's hoping Gov Christie demonstrates just how wrong he is, and hoping it doesn't work the other way around.

We are gaining more conservative support, as we see with Rep. Campbell's sponsorship of the latest House bill. This has been very positive for us.

However, our efforts here are not designed to gain the support of the majority of conservative lawmakers. Rather, it's largely defensive. We can't have what we had in 2006, where we were seen as low hanging fruit to appease some within the movement. We also cannot allow what Tony Perkins seems to believe to be true -- that the only true conservative position regarding online poker is one of opposition -- to become reality. We can survive the opposition of individual lawmakers, but not of an entire major political party.
