There's a gtd tournament coming up, I expect it to be a 2 day tournament with all the local pros and good players going to it. I consider myself good, I cash in a high percentage, but I do get trapped with top 2 at times.
Thar said, alternatively I could do a couple local tournaments where I expect the field to be very very easy. Of course prize pools are significantly lower. From strictly a business perspective, which would you go for? Homerun or some solid singles?
The variance in tournaments is murderous. The way to overcome it is volume. If you have a good ROI in the local tournaments, play them as often as you can, and print.
The big score of the occasional big-guarantee event can be tempting, but not only are the fields tougher, dropping ROI, but they are larger as well, sending variance through the roof.
