Hi all,

I live in a country where my online poker winnings are taxable. However, I have a european passport. I am however not a european citizen currently.

If I were to open up a bank account in a european country where online gambling/gambling is tax-free, and withdraw profits to this bank account would I be exempt from tax?

Does anyone know how this works?

Thanks.

e: Actually, the stickies answer it in much more detail. Short answer: You probably owe tax anyway, especially if you're a US citizen or are currently in the US

This must depend on the laws of the particular countries, which you did not identify, so I don't think anyone could give anything even close to a definitive answer.

EDIT:

Also, "live in" is a little vague and the answer may depend on breaking this down a little more.

I doubt that opening a bank account in a European country where online gambling/gambling is tax-free and withdrawing profits to such bank account would matter. My guess would be that you either owe the taxes or not and what bank you put money in has no bearing. But there is no way for me to know what the actual answer is. That is just a guess.

You could always talk to a tax professional.
