Some politicians think its an important issue.
Even politicians who dont think its important are willing to listen to their constituents and sometimes provide lip service.

We think they would because they do. politicians talk about poker all the time. Look at pretty much any thread in this forum, they are full of articles, interviews, hearings etc where politicians are talking about poker. That's sort of the whole point even.

I understand you here, it's just, the articles, interviews, hearings etc. that you are talking about are not heard by some large majority. Maybe I'm wrong about that? I would certainly love to be

Raymer has missed the mark. He's talking about democracy and people trying to get what they want - democracy is very inefficient at giving people what they want, not to mention immoral.

With democracy, if the majority don't want online poker, nobody gets online poker, and the majority's will is imposed on the minority that DOES want online poker.

Compare this to capitalism where if I want to play poker, I get to play poker. If you don't want to play poker, you don't have to. It is much more efficient at giving people what they want, and is fundamentally moral because it is based on individuals voluntarily interacting with each other, whereas democracy is based on the forceful will and coercion of the majority over the minority.

Inviting more and more government into the regulation of capitalism is not the way to go here.

Greg Raymer, I don't play online roulette either, but I'm not going to try to get what I want and throw someone else under the bus to do so. I feel this is immoral.

This is not being libertarian, this is "buying loopholes" as our friend Gary Johnson was discussing with Rich.

"wasted vote" was a good topic in that its important - but a bad question since the answer was obvious. Because of course he's gonna say "you won't waste your vote, you're making a statement", which you and Raymer echoed later.

I'd be more interested in a question about Instant Runoff Voting. This would allow people to vote for whoever they want without risking wasting their vote. Barack Obama, John McCain, and Howard Dean have all supported IRV for local and state elections. So I'd be curious to hear his opinion on IRV, things like, would he support implementing IRV, does he think it could realistically ever pass at the federal level, are there any politicians currently in office that are brave enough to get that ball rolling federally?

Good interview with Gary Johnson. Overall a pretty good discussion with Greg Raymer. The tone of the discussion overall is good, but once specifics are brought up in regards to poker legislation, Raymer and Muny really miss the mark imo. Raymer's comment about not playing online roulette himself so he's ok with it being banned as long as he gets online poker was absolutely disgusting imo.

minor hijack, but on the topic of 3rd party candidates and Gary Johnson specifically, the next episode of Stossel has Gary Johnson on as a guest along with the Socialist Party and Constitution Party candidates. It was taped on Tuesday and I think airs tonight (not positive on when it airs). Poker has been brought up multiple times on Stossel's show in the past, so its possible that the issue could get a passing mention while contrasting the positions of each candidate, might be worth watching.

And the topic of 'wasting votes' will almost certainly be discussed also.

That's pretty big, getting a vp nominee the day before the election.

Question for Greg Raymer (unrelated to the vp interview, but as a lead in to the lame duck session) - What happened to FairPlayUSA?
