Happy to live in PA where it is at least a possibility, but I'm not familiar with the likelyhood of this being passed. Here's to hoping.

Can't seem to find anything current online...

Is this bill still a possibility?

Give us a few reasons why you think your opinion is better than the opinion of a large reputable firm like morgan stanley?Just so we know your not just saying things out of the blue...

Morgan Stanley has had testable predictions over the past few years with regards to online poker and gambling. How have those predictions gone? They have all been on the optimistic side, by a very large amount. They've even revised downwards and still been on the optimistic side.

QED

I'm curious if the lukewarm results of online poker efforts in other states are going to impact PA's chances of pushing legalization through.

Word is there will be a vote in PA House Gaming Oversight Committee on bill to license Internet poker tomorrow morning, and it has decent chance to pass.

Terrific outcome today! 18-8 and defeating the poison pill amendment.

We still have votes of the full House and Senate and there are no guarantees, but today's vote is very helpful in moving this along.

Rich thank you for the hard work.

I think this is the best version of US legalization we have seen so far. Although one could argue NV might be better for poker.

Key wins to me are:

- Tax 14% is reasonable
- pool with other legal states
- anyone can apply for a license

Key Problems
- 5M license is very steep and deter companies from entering the market.
- No Effective rake for poker ratio. It is really paramount that we start demanding to see data about how much poker players win and lose. We need to see the actual cost of the game. We need to report how much revenue/rake is generated relative to losses, so we can understand if the games are beatable.
This will allow us in the future to protect the integrity of the game and assure that poker does not become a slot machine. I.e. if the effective rake is close to 80% and we have data about it we can actually form arguments. Right now we know the effective rake is 80% and 90% of players lose but we cannot prove these facts and as such have no way to actually protect the integrity of the game. As a result online poker is more of a online slot machine and as such the market will remain small and limited to a fraction of its potential.

Anyway. I am very happy with the progress and the work of the PPA and i thank you for your hard work.

It's not anyone that can apply, it's only land based licensees. The bill also includes casino as 'authorised game'.

Also from previous hearing it was mentioned that launch is expected 9-12 months after the law passes so it seems as if earliest possible best case scenario is October time but more likely end 16 / Q1 17.

Yes, aka crony capitalism and probaby a violation of the Dormant Commerce Clause. Or as they call it in America, business as usual.

I disagree here. The casino is not in the business of making us money. They will set the rake at the level that makes them the most money, and I don't have a problem with that. If it's too high for pros to make a living, then there will be no pros, and I'm fine with that. If they make poker a slot machine, then so be it. I (along with many others), just won't play.
