How bad ass would it be if PokerStars had a commercial asking people to call their Congressman? How bad ass would it be if PokerStars had a commercial asking people to call their Congressman?

They could show a link to a site like the PPA's where they can call or email their members of congress. It would be cool if they sent out emails too.

Maybe the magazines could have a front page that says that legalizing online poker could happen soon and they need people to call congress and have the info inside.

If Frank says this will pass if everyone calls congress then we need as many people to call as possible. What other chance are we gonna get? I hope these next couple months don't go by with only a few people knowing what's going on and not doing anything.

We need some way to let all the online players know that this can happen if we all start calling!!! I don't know if it can get done by 2+2 alone, but thanks to everyone who has been calling. We need to let all of congress know that the best option is to regulate this industry.

I wonder if Google or Facebook would get behind this. Would they even know people calling their congressman will help this bill?

This is a very good proposition, and I hope the PPA has or is looking into this.

It seems that organizations much bigger than the PPA are interested in hr2267 and some tv spots would be a lock to get this thing done.

It kinda seems weird to do this... commercials and front pages of magazines and stuff, but if these people want this to pass, they gotta do it. Barney Frank himself said we can affect the chances of it passing and if enough people call congress it will pass this year! He wouldn't give a number on how likely it is to pass because he said it is up to THE PEOPLE!

I have tried to pound this idea............especially in the wake of Citizens United. I just do not know enough about the laws required to take the money from a foreign corporation to a US based one to what it can advocate, but the work should have been done by now by some organization, not necessarily poker.

This sounds great. A PPA commercial would be cool too. Maybe Stars and/or Full Tilt could help fund this. I would be up for another PPA $ drive to help with funding too.

I would contribute $100 to a commercial and there should be thousands of others who would too.

Actually political commercials could be sponsored by the '.com' side as a friend of the Bill.
That is an even better way to advertise than the stupid '.net' farce.

It might not be a good idea for "foreign" interests to lobby support using commercials.
Those with a mindset of "banonlinepoker" might see this as an overseas power grab of the US gaming industry, "there goes all these hard working American jobs overseas to foreign sites" BS.

It might be better if US B&M's,the AGA,etc, use commercials to push legislation rather then Stars.

I think, once legislation starts to move in the Senate and something passing becomes a real possibility we'll see commercials (in certain markets)from different lobbying groups, some for and some against legislation. Right now, It's still to early in the process of these bills for anyone to spend large amounts of $$$ on commercials.

+1

I'm pretty sure sites would ship that cash to PPA via the IGC for us to make the push.

Makes sense. I just thought it would be a good way to get people to call their congressman to get a yes vote.

What if Google or Facebook did something like this lol.

Google and Facebook specifically prohibit gambling, casino or poker advertising.
Try buying an ad on Facebook for the "Poker Player's Alliance".

The idea is not to spend money on the bill, but to spend the $ letting casual poker fans and players know we exist. Get them to visit a website, make a phone call, and write a letter. Follow up by getting twenty bucks from them. Emails and internet forums are nice, but nothing makes for water cooler and bar stool talk like a commercial on tv. Im sure NBC or ESPN or whoever is showing poker shows these days could even be talked into cut rates as they could see the benefits of an expanded poker playing and watching base. If we want to ever emerge as a legitimate organization in the eyes of casual players, we have to go television. Even imagine a bored staffer or Congressman surfing channels and seeing a political poker ad?

Yea, this is a really great idea. You have Poker Stars running TV commercials urging every online poker player to call their Congressman/Congresswoman urging them to hurry up and pass a bill legalizing online poker and you'll immediately have FoF running counter commercials urging their members to call (and write) their elected representatives urging them to oppose legalizing online poker. The difference will be that for every one online poker player that calls, about 3-4 FoF fanatics will call. But it's still a great idea: The television networks (and advertising agencies) will love the sudden boost in revenue.

FoF, American Crossroads, Family Research Council, et al do not have the resources to pick a media fight over internet poker. Its great, great timing over the Prop 8 ruling to run against right wing social issues. OTOH, we are sorely lacking in numbers of interested casual people, which television commercials can address. The resulting alliance from the funding if it came from existing companies, Harrah's, Google, etc could also create some inertia.
