Firstly i want to say ive never had a problem cashing a canadian check from pokerstars ever. So this is my 2nd time going to [my bank] and depositing a check. The teller said that [my bank] is much more conservative then [a different bank] and that needed to hold the check. I said ok thats fine i dont mind them holding it for a couple of days. She then informed me it could be held for up to 46 weeks. i thought she was confused with days but she said no 46 weeks! Since i dont want my money held for possibly 1 year i left. Has anyone else had a problem like this and is there anything i could/should do besides switching to a more liberal bank?

4 to 6 weeks can sound a bit like 46 weeks.

Get echecks, move to the 21st century.

This bank does hold all checks for one day. Maybe since it's Canadian, it takes longer. It probably won't take that long - she probably tells you a longer time just in case it takes a little bit longer, to cha.

Just a reminder not to post names of banks or payment processors. Thanks.

they surely will not hold it for that long, as soon as the system verifies there is money at the other end the money will go into your account. to avoid these problems next time deposit your check via atm.

you can request a check from a american bank. just email them as soon as you cash out. I had the same problem somewhat. i had support cancel the canadien check and send me a real check

As opposed to fake Canadian checks? And since when did an NHL team become a check processor? j/k...the 1st sentence of post #3 wins the thread, with #2 a close second.

this. Ive had them tell me that before with canadian checks. they said it was for my protection (to ensure that the check issuer really had the funds or something). they didnt want me to spend the money if the check wasnt "legit." I had the amount wayyy covered by the amount in my bank so I was like yeah just go ahead and deposit it and I assured them it was legitimate check (my parents also banked with X bank and they talked to the branch manager as well.) the funds were in there in a few days. Not sure which of those things ^ had the most influence in getting the funds in there way before the 4-6 weeks they mentioned but yeah...

I deposited my Canadian check Monday and it cleared today. Usually takes 2-3 days tops.

depending on the amount, checks deposited are held untill they clear. Surpisingly most people don't undertstand that. You depisot $900 into a account that had a balance of $2000 then the cheque is held back, you just may not see it unless you try to withdraw all $2900.

In your case, it must be 4-6 weeks it was being held. Anyways, if you had concerns you could of asked to speak with the manager.
