I have a win/loss statement from a few different casinos that aren't close to my real result. One says I lost a lot more than I did and the other says I won a lot more than I did at video poker (amazing how a computer can be so far off. I always use my card). For one casino I have records of time, starting points and result of each session. For the other I don't have as good of documentation. Should I use the win/loss from the casino or my records, or both?

Also for the jackpots I've hit it always lists "slots" even though it's video poker. Will that be an issue? I've filed as a professional poker player for 6 years now and it will be the first year using vp.

edit: actually 2010 will be my second year using vp but I haven't yet filed 2009 which was a losing year when taking into account vp

In the eyes of the IRS you are a professional gambler, not a professional poker player. They don't care if your wins or losses are from poker, vp, slots, keno or flipping quarters - it's all gambling income or losses.

I'd go with reporting your actual results (by session, not net totals - see the US Taxes sticky in this forum). Your lack of accurate documentation only potentially becomes a problem if the IRS examines your return.

Keep an accurate hand-written log of all of your gaming from now on.
