Hey all,

Not sure if this has been reported but is an important development for atlantic city.

My family has been involved (in a limited fashion) for several years in the new development of the giants and jets stadium. the stadium is complete and construction on a mega-mall in the same vicinity is nearing completion. what you may not be aware of is that there is plans to construct a giant casino in the same mall/stadium complex.
Keep in mind we are talking about a casino that is 20 mins from manhattan.
Not sure of the status of how public this news is but I can tell you the state senators are already drafting legislation that will permit this.
whether or not it goes through is a debateable issue however this is the same district of jersey that allotted state funds for construction of new roads and obviously for the stadium.
Let me be emphatic in saying this is in the stage of legislation drafting only and would have to be approved by the governor and the people of new jersey in a state referendum.
I love the borgata and this news disturbs me as it will certainly detract from business.
additionally, no casino's from AC or their operating companies are involved in this casino and the owners are unknown.
More to come in the coming months I expect...

TBH, funds to build a major casino are going to be difficult to get for any builder at the moment. When you add that virtually every South Jersey legislator is going to fight it to the death, it is going to be extremely difficult get this project off the ground.

Not impossible, but it isn't going to be a slam dunk by any stretch of the imagination.

As I wrote in the thread of the new governor's report, I think the only way NJ can increase gaming revenue is build casinos near population centers, such as the Meadowlands. The report I read states that currently the Xanadu project to which to refer is economically unfeasible at the current time. A casino inside of it could make the project feasible. However as I also stated in the other thread, southern NJ legislators would fight it to its death.

This is actually a good idea. Put a casino in every mall. Then you can tear down AC, and make it a beach resort.

or something like that.

Is Jimmy Hoffa really buried under the 50-yard line?

You don't think a major casino company wouldn't jump at the opportunity to build something in the metro ny area? They will find funding even if its private.

Havent done any research, but off the top of my head, I am pretty sure this would be the first time a professional sports franchise had gambling on the grounds of its stadium.

I am assuming the mega-mall is actually part of the complex, correct?

I have to think this factors in somewhere...

SIT where are you getting this from?

I work less than 10 minutes from the Meadowland and bid on a lot of the work in the old/new stadium and this is the first and only time I have heard anything like this.

Varsity - You are correct. I do not think it will be linked with the sports stadium at all. Enough money is being generated that they are not involved.

However, there is a new reality developing for the "New Jersey Sports & Exposition Authority" which controls the meadowslands as is. Now there has always been horse-racing there for many years. For years that revenue has been drained by the springing up of legalized horse racing in new york and now we all know about the potential for PA to develop casino's which would include horse racing.

AC is the only place in Jersey where casino's can operate as we all know, however there is a rare opportunity to market a casino which would be marketed as Manhattan's casino where now mass transportation and a new stadium would attract so many tourists and such.

The specific senator who is drafting the legislation is Sen. Paul Sarlo.
There are no concrete plans hamsamwhich, which is why you have not heard of it. It's more of a movement with governmental support.

All I hear is table talk on this issue, I'm not directly involved in anything. My father hates to talk about casino's or gambling so its hard to ask him to find out more info.

Hope this helps

I have done legal work related to the Xanadu project and have seen the plans for the project, and I did not see any space marked "casino" or in which the folks indicated that there was any space set aside for a casino. Moreover, the idea that the very powerful south Jersey politicians would allow a terribly struggling Atlantic City to be cannibalized by a Meadowlands casino is laughable. It will *never* happen. I am not sure where OP gets his information, and I am not suggesting he is lying, but perhaps he misunderstood or there was a miscommunication somewhere.

Niss...I agree that it will not happen but OP is correct in his reporting that there is a Senator suggesting it (Paul Sarlo).

I think such a casino, or complex of casinos, would be quite profitable and that's more than sufficient reason not to do it.
