There is no way that "any online gambling bill we want" will sail through the House. We're still a big underdog to get a bill through the House this year, never mind having it signed into law. Frank's bill isn't even getting makred up until May

cmon dealer, one time!

seems like a positive analysis
The only time I've heard about attaching it to must-pass legislation was in the Fahrenkopf interview:

Quote:
They’ll mark the bill up and try to get it out of committee and onto the floor — or attach it to something that is a guaranteed pass, very much how like UIGEA passed, where they put it on a port security bill. So that’s where it is.
Barney Frank has stated on numerous occasions he won't do it:

The Hill, Thursday, April 2 2009:

Quote:
It's unclear whether the gambling ban would have become law if it had been forced to stand on its own merits. Frank said it would be "inappropriate" to follow suit. "That is not my intention. It would be a mistake," Frank told The Hill. "I want to do this with hearings, discussions and votes."

I cant say there is anything incorrect in what you say sba9630, but I don't think you have considered all the possibilities.

It is quite possible that Frank get his bill passed on its own in the House and that a similar version is then passed as part of a larger bill in the Senate. And then they are reconciled for another omnibus vote in both branches of government....Where have I seen this before...?

I had considered that. i also considered the fact that the Frank quote is from April 2009, and he may have changed his mind since then.

I just wanted to point it out to temper any irrational exuberance over the Fahrenkopf quote.

From my reading of the article, Fahrenkopf seems like he's read the Executive Cover Sheet Summary, but isn't real far into the weeds on the issue(s) regarding online poker.

I hope I'm wrong (on both issues), and something gets done.
