Today and tomorrow, the ABA's Gaming Law section is hosting a program in Las Vegas. The first presentation of the day is "Internet Gaming in the United States: Not If, But When and How Internet Gaming is Being Increasingly Legalized Throughout the World." The description of the topic is:

Quote:
France and Italy are the newest leaders in the European Union. The Atlantic provinces in Canada have already implemented Internet gaming. Ontario and British Columbia are jumping on the bandwagon. Congressman Frank’s Internet gaming legislation and Senator Menendez’s I-Poker legislation are in the Congressional hopper. Recognizing that the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act expressly exempts intrastate Internet gaming and tribal Internet gaming from its cash transaction restrictions, Illinois has enacted intrastate Internet gaming legislation via its state lottery. California, Florida, and New Jersey have all seen intrastate Internet gaming bills introduced in their respective legislatures and the announcement of a proposed “Tribal Gaming Network” for Internet poker in tribal casinos. Recent decisions in the Washington Supreme Court and the United States Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals lend support to the ability of individual states to enact legislation authorizing intrastate Internet gambling. The momentum for legal Internet gambling is building. This panel will discuss and project when and how legal Internet gambling will arrive in the United States.
I think it would be interesting to hear from anyone who attended this presentation to tell us what the presenters' view is on legalization in the US. If a paper was involved, perhaps it could be posted (or a link provided).

One of the presenters is from a group called "Poker Voters of America". Anyone ever hear of them?

PX, thanks. If I recall correctly, Melanie Brenner is in fact the person on the panel from Poker Voters of America. Presumably they got involved in this presentation through a relationship with at least one of the attorneys involved. It's a shame it was not the PPA instead. Now I'd *really* like to hear what was said at this presentation about legalization.

I stop by this morning and file a trip report, if I can get in without paying a fee.

Being a vet of many of these ABA conferences, I can assure you that you should be able to walk right in.
