I wonder what the average topics per page setting was on the UBB board.

Ryan, is the issue here that most people use default settings, so on UBB ~15% or whatever of users jacking it up to 99 threads/page wasn't an issue? And that if you put the default up to 30-40, then all users having that setting increases server load?

If vB is faster than UBB, and on UBB you allowed this to be a user-customizable setting, then what's wrong with treating this the same way on vB? There may well be a valid technical reason why this doesn't make sense, and if so then please explain; but for now, it seems like "even though all these issues were probably available for abuse in UBB, and even though vB is faster and should be able to handle 'abuse' of these features better than UBB, we're disabling them."

If I don't log into a forum like, say, BBV for a few days there can be like 150-200 unread threads. Going through a couple pages was wayyy easier than jumping through 6-7 pages now will be (and even that's only after you bump it up to 30, right now that'll be 12 pages!).

How do you NOT subscribe to every thread you post in?

Edit Options > Notification Options. In the drop down menu, the first option is "do not subscribe."

i'd really like to be able to see how many unread posts are in each thread. Also, the OP of each thread should highlighted a bit more, and also be the appropriate color (red for mod, etc).

I guess the only option is for everyone to get in the habit of quoting 100% of the time.

You can easily list all threads started by a user.

Not being able to see all posts in a thread on a single page, and not being able to see 50+ threads on a page are MAJOR, MAJOR losses.
better: quick reply, more text editing options, fixed width stuff, spoilers

worse: pretty much every other goddamn thing

Think of it like this...
One of the reasons vB performs so much better is that it's been fine tuned with that in mind. If there is a restriction on something like this that's why. Further it handles things in much different ways to gain that stability.

Well I know not everyone used 99, and we have many people who browse without accounts. So with it being the setting for everyone it can't be too high, should fit the layout, etc. To prolong its life we may have limited some of these things more in UBB if it were easy enough to do so. With that in mind, I'll still be happy to increase the number once stability is proven.

Ryan,

I def dont think he need 99, I only had like 50 as my setting for the previous software, 30-40 would be jsut fine, but 17 is just waaaaay to few

heater,

If you're responding to someone or something, why wouldn't you quote it or specifically address them by name?

Is there any way I can get it to show the correct date as i had it before, 3.12.2007 instead of 12-3-2007?

If this has been mentioned I apologize.... when I click on a thread it does not automatically go to my first unread post in that thread, I have to click on "View First Unread Post" in each thread.... is it supposed to be like that?
