RPM Poker Sent Out Spam PMs RPM Poker Sent Out Spam PMs

01-28-2011 , 05:00 PM
I posted in the Cake Poker feedback thread in the zoo. Interestingly enough, my post in that thread was actually pointing out how scummy I thought it was that True Poker CEO (who's apparently not the CEO of True Poker? WTF? Someone should change his SN.) came into Cake's thread advertising how soft he thinks games are on the True Poker Network (link).

I then get a PM from RPMSeth telling me about all the exciting things going on on his network!!!

RPM Poker has been on the Merge Network since its inception in 2008, and we have built a solid reputation for having the best support, great value, innovative promotions, and very happy players. Here's what I can offer you back in terms of value. If you do your research, you'll find that we offer the best, legitimate deals on the Merge Network through our rakeback and promotions.

[Snipped out the remainder of the really long PM. Suffice it to say, it's full of AWESOME PROMOTIONS FROM RPM POKER]
The guy sent that particular PM to 6 people (apparently mods can do that?). I'm sure that in reality he sent it to many more people than that, since he obviously just spammed people who posted in the Cake thread, and clearly wasn't targetting specific people.

Needless to say, this type of scumminess can't happen on 2p2. It especially shouldn't be happening from people who are mods on 2p2 and have sponsored forums. So, like, admins should do something about that so it doesn't happen again.

On the plus side, though, they have some pretty hilariously goofy ads:

The lion actually waves his arms around in the original.

Hi Noah,

If I said I hadn't PM'd anyone, I'd be lion! Ha ha ha!

Seriously, though, I did send out a large amount of private messages explaining our offers to players who appeared disgruntled with the service on Cake. I also tried to target these messages to people who I pegged as 'involved' 2+2 users. Though we're on the Merge Network, we're here on 2+2 to help players, and that continues to be our intention.

I have made the 2+2 moderators aware of this thread and the messages I have sent out. My apologies if my private message inconvenienced anyone today, but we are here to help and only have the best of intentions.

Best,
RPM Seth

P.S. Thanks for the love for our ads

I don't know how you could possibly think that that was at all appropriate.

I doubt it helps you at all, anyway, since it just makes your site appear totally desperate for traffic and you sent the PM to a bunch of people who were freaking out about Cake losing traffic.

That does seem tacky.

The mane thing is that no one got hurt

Give the guy a break. It's not like he is trying to poaching players that are happy.

I don't see anything wrong with trying to build your player base. Competition between sites is good for all players.

Delete the PM if it isn't for you and move on.

Before I get bashed for working for RPM or some non-sense. I have no affiliation with the site. I have recently asked RPMSeth to send me some info on his site however and I'm pleased I did. They seem to have a professional team and I'm sure no offence was intended.

There was a major concert being held at a large outdoor venue. Many hours before the gates opened, people had formed long lines to buy tickets. Near one of these lines, at a secluded back gate, a lion jumped out of the woods-- a really big lion! People started running in all directions to get away from the lion. All the people that is, except for one man. He just stood stock still in his place. To no one's surprise, the really big lion went up to him, and swallowed him in one bite. Then, like all lions that have had a big meal, it promptly laid down and went to sleep. Slowly, the people came out of the woods to look at the sleeping lion. One of the people that had observed what had happened said, 'Maybe he's still alive inside the lion. Is there a doctor around?' Sure enough, there was. The doctor very cautiously approached the lion, and placed his stephiscope on the lion's belly. Sure enough, the man was still alive. So, the doctor asked 'Sir, sir, are you OK?' The man replied back from inside the lion 'Yes, I'm OK. You can leave me alone. Can't you see I'm just waiting in lion?'

That sets a dangerous precedent, though because then PSSTeve, FTSean, etc. will want to be able to send PM's to "unhappy" players.

And then... chaos.

Edit: In before thread is renamed "Lion jokes".

Why did the lion lose at poker? Because he was playing with a cheetah.

Competition between sites is fine. Advertising is fine.

But part of the reason that the vast majority of the internet sucks is because it's full of spam and any time you sign up for any site your inbox just gets flooded with advertisements. 2p2 is one of the magical places on the internet that is actually usable because they have really strict rules about spam (see the ToC), and they actually enforce them.

Agreed.

This definitely wasn't appropriate, and Seth is aware of that now. Both RPM and Seth have an excellent reputation in the Internet Poker forum for their great customer service, and I'm sure they'll learn from this mistake.

Actually, i thought quite the opposite after seeing this message, it looks like they're really on the ball and actually give a **** about their players.

Sure.. They come off well in their advertisement that lists the positive aspects of their site from their perspective. Most people come off well in things like that.

RPMSeth seems like a good guy. I PMed him about this, and he snap apologized to me personally (granted, with some excuses) as well as ITT. Maybe their site is in fact awesome too... I dunno. (I sorta doubt it because I haven't really heard good things about the Merge network, and if you read between the lines in their own advertisement, you can see hints of the problems there, but I dunno.)

But, that's not an appropriate way to advertise, and they shouldn't be able to gain traffic from it (which is why I cut off my PM before the links and promotions and stuff). It's bad for 2p2 as a business because it undercuts their paid advertising (which is the only reason this forum exists), it annoys people, and it would drive people away in droves if that type of thing were allowed. (Do you have any idea how many people would love to just PM everyone on 2p2 to go to their web site?) It's also just totally unprofessional.
01-28-2011 , 08:48 PM
Presumably there's a claws about spamming in the advertising contract they signed with 2+2.
01-28-2011 , 08:49 PM
I'm not certain I believe this tail anyhow.
01-28-2011 , 08:56 PM
Let's all just paws for a minute and calm down.
01-28-2011 , 08:59 PM
I have heard RPM have great value in their VIP cub.
01-28-2011 , 10:20 PM
Well I hope in this mighty poker jungle of ours everyone sleeps tonight.
01-28-2011 , 10:21 PM
