#1. The guy doesn't know anything about sports betting.

#2. The forum was fine before he ever came around. A new mod was never needed. It is a low traffic forum that operates much differently than the other gambling sub-forums. The other mod (performify) moderated the forum for years with zero problems. He's still around when needed, so having niss around is unnecessary.


I have no problems taking my infractions when I deserve them. But having a power hungry mod with little to zero knowledge of sports betting itself and has never posted anything of help to a user in the sports betting forum having the reigns to the place is ridiculous.

If you think you have a case, why not highlight the things he's done wrong and not just the terrible posts you made bitching about it? The posts you quoted seem like they more than earn a ban.

I can tell you that from conversations in the mod forum, the perspective on SB seemed to be that for the people who already posted on the forum, the tone worked well, but that it was very harsh and did not encourage new readers/posters.

I think this is an argument that would be hard to formulate but not necessarily wrong. The main issue is that Niss is not able to filter the good from the bad b/c he has a small knowledge base to work from.

SB isn't a game like poker but it's more of a market based investment proposition. There isn't any subdivision in forums between market, experience or scale so something analogous would be someone moderating a singular finance forum with little to no knowledge themselves. Main difference would be, this is one of the main spots for a demo like SB - unlike finance where there are numerous, more appropriate alternatives

The climate has definitely changed and I believe it's attributable to 2 things

1) Thremp's banning - like I posted in the forum. He was basically our Charlie Sheen and it definitely drew eyeballs and banter

2) Perf's declining involvement and Niss' seeming rise in dominion

The forum has been completely killed.

Before niss it was a handful of degenerate gamblers posting their locks of the day and then smart people would try and prove how smart they were by showing how stupid the degens were, and then discussions where money was routinely given away would develop

Right now it's just a handful of degenerate gamblers posting their locks of the day. I don't open many of the threads but it's possible the degens occasionally put together sentences in between listing their picks.

the sports betting forum is and has always been a steaming pile (with an occasional undigested corn kernel to nibble upon). this was the case before niss became mod. and before thremp got banned. that's just the nature of a sb forum and people with an understanding of the sports betting marketplace understand why any large, public forum will always be a steaming pile.

that said, it's remains my home forum on 2+2.

Niss could redeem himself if he would start banning every single RickJ post that he makes. Talk about a steaming pile. How this guy is grandfathered in to copy and paste picks directly from a blog that anybody curious enough to know about could just go to his blog has baffled me since i began regularly posting in SB years back.

Does Performify just have zero desire to moderate anymore? I have barely heard a peep out of him. If he doesn't want to do it fine, but Niss is not the answer.

rickj is literally the only documented long-term winning bettor who regularly posts plays (thanks for that royals pick today). i think he deserves any minor special treatment he receives.

i actually think niss does a fine job as the problem isn't really moderation. the problem is fundamental--a public sports betting strategy forum is counter-productive.

Also, lol @ the OP in this thread. Your 2 examples of "bad modding" are 2 posts which are snap bans on essentially every forum on the site. I'm extremely lenient when it comes to banning, but I'd easily time you out for either one of those. Get over yourself.
