theyre not getting rid of bbv4l, now lets free lionel

long temp ban instead? new nick?

LH is a good poster, I would like to see him back.
09-05-2007 , 07:06 PM
You babies act like all LH did was post MSPorn. He probably should have been axed for the inline horse porn, but he was given another chance. He had his chance. From Mat's point of view, this guy is causing much more trouble than he's worth.

You have no idea how wrong you are. The best way to get a forum closed is for it to be more trouble than its worth for Mat. When Mat makes posts like that, its time to STFU srs biz. I think Mat would rather take a sledge to the server than allow a true "free for all".

I would know.

Here's the deal. I am all for an anything goes forum. Mason has vetoed that idea. It's not open to discussion. If people can't control themselves a little better. Just a little. If they can't do that, I'll have no choice but to close the forum.

It's really not even my decision.

i can't wait for bbv4l to turn into the "it's a trap!" forum where those who are sucking hard an awful lot are permabanned at random intervals. i won't miss the 15 year olds who have currently taken over at all.

I'm not sure I understand this. Is BBV more of a problem than other OT forums? I would think that alot more people are banned in OOT or even NVG than BBV4L, but I could be wrong.

I don't like when good posters get banned but it's not like I can argue with LH's banning. I don't see how posts like his (that don't happen that often) are cause for closure of the forum.

What about supersecret modpowers to guys like DDY or GA who's only responisibility is to delete the NSFW stuff when it comes up. Seems like reaction time is the biggest problem for these things in our forum.

It's a high traffic forum with no paid mods, what's the downside for the site owners in keeping it alive?

I know you said that this is more Mason's thing, but he's not here talking to us.

I've got a better idea: how about posters who the young impressionable crowd seem to look up to for whatever reason don't do stupid [censored] like post MS Paint porn or inline horse porn or stuff like that? It's in the sticky for chrissakes:

Quote:
no porn, cartoon or rl.
I like(d) Hutz and it's a bummer he repeatedly violated the rules and got ran, but Gildwulf seems like a great guy and a patient one and some of you guys are stressing him out and making things hard on him by constantly pushing the envelope/breaking the rules. He deserves better.

Yes. There seems to be one big problem with bbv not present in other forums: the posting of nsfw images.

Personally, I don't care. The site owner does. That's it. Can we fix that? Are there volunteers out there who feel like enforcing that rule and dealing with all the whining afterward?

He's a volunteer mod. I like gild and adanthar alot and think they are good mods but I very much doubt we are breaking his spirit.

And breaking the rules ends up in a ban, I can't argue that. It shouldn't result in the closure of the forum if a few people (myself included) break the rules and get banned for it.

And holy [censored] you are condescending. It's not a bunch of 13 year-olds worshipping porn mspainters in the forum, it's just a fun place. MSPaint porn, while against the rules, is still pretty [censored] funny. That's why we people like LH.

I don't see why it would be a problem finding people to do it. It's just deleting a post if it's nsfw. If people whine, then whatever, it's better than no BBV4L.

t-god, step up for it, ur respected in bbv and prolly have enough good sense of what crossing the line is

i'll do it, i probably spend more time in that forum than most of the other posters. DDY and GA are the 2 others, like t-god said, taht would come to mind.
09-05-2007 , 08:26 PM
also, i know hutz had a lot of chances, but what's to keep mods from just giving out longer and longer temp bans rather than the perma ban?? i would think the troublemakers would conform eventually...

T-Dog,

To be fair, I was partially referring to a comment by kkcountry upthread where he implied that lately a bunch of kids have made the forum less enjoyable. It wasn't meant to be condescending; I only cruise by there from time to time so have to rely on others for the tone. Any forum that has such awesome posters as GA, CC, you, and many others is going to be pretty cool by default.

As for Gildwulf, you're right that he is a volunteer mod. If he was receiving some sort of compensation for his efforts then I would probably be less sympathetic. But the fact is some of you guys do seem to stress him out a lot and put him in situations where he has to make no-win decisions. Either he takes action on something questionable and pisses off the forum, or he takes a chance of letting something roll that may violate the T&C and getting himself/the site in trouble. His has to be the toughest unpaid job on this site.

That forum seems to be at its best when it's pushing envelopes. It just seems that some people push too far.

EDIT: there's obviously other mods in that forum, but I've always considered him "lead" mod, much as NT! is for OOT, thus the blame seems to fall on him by default.

This is a much better solution than shutting down an entire forum.

Look, how hard would it be to just put a sticky up top that says "NSFW images inline = permaban"? And then enforce it, because everybody's had fair warning?

pm me link to the pic that got hutz permabanned plz (not the horsey one, pm that to blutarski)

yeah, I don't actually mod bbv4l much at all, I just occasionally clean up a thread when someone PM's me about it. my primary turf is BBV proper.

I'd be happy to ban a bunch of people but I doubt you guys would like the results, so I strongly suggest sticking to whatever line is hashed up ITT and not toeing it for a good long while.

sounds like a great idea honestly. but you'd be surprised, a lot of people actually disagree with such a resonable policy.

lol that's hella lame. doesn't the domain from which the pic come from make in NSFW in the eyes of an employer?
