Dropping to the ground, they begin crawling away from the sound of the feared troll. Even "Fluffy" was acting wary. afraid of the unknown. Stealthy, silent, working their way to the only escape, toward the very bridge where the troll lived.

Eventually, they reached the gate and pulled themselves up to the latch. Ringing the bell, they cried out in unison, with "Fluffy" barking the refrain. Vicious growls came from within, but the latch began to slowly open. Each inch wider revealed a small female figure, the mother of the troll perhaps?

"Do you know who I am ?", the troll screamed from behind them.

LOL, the point being that there's a clinical difference between someone who is attracted to prepubescent children (what we typically mean when we say the word "pedophile") and someone attracted to post pubescent but still young (and under the statutory age of consent) girls (or boys).

Let's not forget that not that long ago in this country (within the last two centuries), and still in many parts of the world, an older man marrying a 13 year old girl wouldn't be considered all that unusual. At one point in time, once a child was physically capable of having children they were considered old enough to be the object of sexual desire and advances.

At any rate, due to age of consent laws and the now extended adolescence that we have, the lines between what is socially acceptable to want to sex and what we have historically wanted to sex are increasingly blurred. But people who acknowledge being attracted to "jail bait" 15 year olds are not pedophiles.

What if the fifteen year old hasn't gone through puberty? Does that make someone, whether they know the girl hasn't gone through puberty or not, a pedophile?

Like, if this was a hypothetical where she still appeared/was prepubescent despite her chronological age, then I would guess he was also attracted to other prepubescent appearing children and then would ergo be a pedophile.

I mean in general pedophiles are attracted to children with no secondary sex characteristics. While that technically includes older kids who just haven't gone through puberty for whatever reason, you have to look at their entire psychosexual attraction patterns. In a true pedophile, the unusual prepubescent 15 year old is going to be an outlier.

To add to the complexity of the issue, many of the cases that I dealt with were situational and not the result of a specific attraction toward children.

The funny thing is that if a 70 year old is seen chatting up 18 year olds, he will definitely be thought of by everyone as some sort of paedophile - notwithstanding definitions - unless he is a pop- or film-star, when he will be admired by virtually the entire male population.

It is a bit odd in this day and age, because I often deal with children (grandchildren, their friends, the children of friends who I'm helping with emotional issues, etc.) and I need to be extra careful about how everything looks to others. In the early days of my career, I only needed to focus on the counseling or the other specific needs of the children.

The adult offender had no predilection towards children, but they felt they had no other outlet. These situations usually involved family members and alcohol, etc. These were always one time incidents, with no other assaults on the adult's record.

One thing I learned quickly about having 14-18 year old girls running around my house when my kids were in highschool (especially considering the clothes they wear these days) is you don't ever, ever put yourself in a "situation" that could ever be considered suspect.

As I get older, I find my view on the age of consent changes. Presently, I think the age of consent should be 30.
