I've played poker for some time and overall had pretty good success.... few big days and a few classic beat-downs, but overall I tend to stay ahead.
To win a really big pot it takes more than a good hand.....you have to have opponents who also have what they believe is the winning hand, and bet accordingly. Occationally I have had the winning hand with one or two other players drawing great hands too.....and the result is a big win for me!!
However, nothing matches the night when it all came together. I was playing one of the medium tables (4M-8M) and over several hours it had filled up with really good players who slowly built their chips on weaker players who came and went. There was some REAL money on the table!
Being experienced players, no one was going BINGO, but tended to slow-play any hand. I drew an excellent hand, A-Q (both diamonds) and antied up. Then the flop came.....10-J-K....IN DIAMONDS!!! I had flopped the dream hand, a Royal Flush!
I slow played it, just following the other bets, which surprisingly were quite agressive. What I didn't know at the time was that at the flop one player had drawn a Straight to the A, one a Flush to the K, one a 3-of-a-kind in 10's, a 3-of-a-kind with J's and a 3-of-a-kind with K's.....of course all stayed in the game an a 6th opponent with A-K had paired his K's and also stayed. The betting was putting a really nice pot on the table at this point.
At the turn an A showed......everyone stayed including the "weak" hand who now had 2 pair, A&K's. We now had a Straight to the A, a Flush to the K....and "other" good hands. Then the river turned up another A!
This meant the 4 "weak" hands were all Full House...10,J and K's over A's and an A over K's to go along with the Straight to A and Flush to K that already had been filled........and all against my Royal Flush! For once I KNEW I couldn't be beat, even though I had no idea how good the other hands were.
The final round betting was STRONG with everyone going All-In.....and of course I followed suit. When the dust settled I'd cleared the table....taking ALL the chips in play.....a total of 47.6 Million chips.
This was a PROFIT of over 40 Million chips to me....IN ONE HAND!!! I've since had big wins and great hands, but NEVER have I seen that many strong hands at one time.....and never came close to a win like that night to remember.
Wins 40m on a 4-8m table?
"filled up with really good players"
